Gunmetal (not to be confused with the 2002 title of roughly the same name) is the sole game developed and published by Mad Genius Software. Ostensibly a tank-style game, it plays mostly like old-school FPS games like Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, albeit in true 3D.

However, the game is heavily framed around the novel mechanic of having all weapons and player specs be acquired and customized, respectively, through a loadout store between missions. You can also choose the armor of your tank (called an RPV or Remote Piloted Vehicle), which influences how you approach missions, the briefings for which make suggestions on the type of armor type you should be using in that scenario.

Poor sales upon release doomed the game to obscurity, but it has managed to maintain something of a cult following in the years since. A number of the people involved in the game's development went on to work for other developers such as EA, Ubisoft and Valve, to name a few, or moved on to work in the film and television industry.
