----------------------------------------------------------
Dreamcast Weekly now goes to over 10,000 gamers all around
the world! :) To celebrate passing this mark, from now on
every month we'll be brining you a discount on something
Dreamcast. For example, starting at the 1st of May, for
2 weeks you'll be able to pick up Monaco Grand Prix 2 for
just AUS$79, that's US$50! Each special will make buying
cheaper than anywhere on the net, and cheaper than living
in Japan yourself. Future specials will include DC Consoles,
and discounts for pre-orders among others. These will be
prices exclusive only to DC Weekly readers.
For this issue though, we have an editorial on video
game violence (a topic very much in the news this week),
plenty of news and rumors (Metal Gear Soild), new trivia,
and cheats for House Of The Dead, Super Speed Racing and
Aero Dancing.
Until next week... Happy Gaming, and thanks for being a
part of DC Weekly!
~ Tails (Editor)
HOT Quote This Issue: "I have been buying M rated games

======| COVER STORY |=====================================
----------------------------------------------------------
>>>> Video Game Violence-Will it Never Stop?
>>>> Written by Steve
Tails - "Video Game Violence is all over the news this
week, from the new anti-game legislature being proposed
currently, to all 3 major game companies being sued over
of the Dec 1, 1997 shooting where 3 teenagers were
fatally wounded."
The video game industry has grown exponentially over the
since the late '70s, and with that, the games have gotten
faster, better looking, and more realistic. All of these
changes for the better. Now, with the more realistic
graphics, violence has begun to be more and more of a
problem with parents, and even the government. Below, a
brief history of game violence, and the problems it causes.
Every system had violent games with a violent theme to them.
From the 2600 to the Dreamcast, game have been violent, and
always will be. But, why did nobody ever talk about it until
the release of Mortal Kombat on the Genesis? Simple, really.
The Genesis was the first system that could display graphics
that were capable of showing such violence as Sub Zero ripping
Scorpion's head off. Dripping spinal cord and all. This upset
people very much. Why would anyone want to view something so
violent, let alone interact with it? Also, a crappy, FMV game
where mindless girls that ran around in nighties getting
massacred caused a bit of unrest. It was called Night Trap.
And you had to catch the bad guys. Not even a good game. I'll
talk about this more later. Anyway, these were two very violent
games, and it was a relatively new type of thing at the time.
Next, the big question surfaced. "Could playing violent games
make people more violent?"
The answer is no, right now. There is no psychological proof
that violent games make violent people. True, it can raise
aggression, but little else. It can also provide a place to blow
off anger. So instead of going off and shooting 5 people in the
mall, you can shoot up hundreds of people in Virtua Cop 2, or
beat the hell out of guys in Tekken 3, or whatever.
Now, mainly because of Nintendo pointing out these two violent
tiles (both on the Genesis and Sega CD), the government got
involved. They made up this thing called the ESRB, and under
the leadership of a lunatic named Jseph Libermann, they
proceeded to rate games, a process which still to this day,
has literally no effect. I have been buying Mature games since
I was 13, never being asked where my parents were, my age, or
anything, just "Here's you game." That shows you how well
this system works. Store clerks never ask for ID, never ask
where your parents are, or anything, hey just make the sale.
Movies are better, and on opening night, they ask for ID (most
of the time), but it's still not very effective.
Ratings do have a good part to them, they can let you gauge
how violent a game is, if you can't tell from the cover, of
course. If you see a game with stickers on it that say, "Now
over 25 ways to maim, slay, and kill! Now with patented
Ultra-Gore® system, that you can spray blood and limbs all
over the room!", then you shouldn't buy it if that game's not
for you. Also, they can provide a wall for developers to hide
behind, where they can say that their violent game had a rating,
and cannot be sued for anything.
Honestly, games don't have to be violent to be good. Mario,
Sonic, and plenty of other games had hardly a drop of blood
in them, and all of them were great. If you don't like
violent games, then don't get them, and don't ever feel
forced that you have to. There are enough choices out there.

Redline Racer will be the next title available for Sega

28th. Pre-orders are now being taken for this hot Motorbike
simulation.

to see running on Dreamcast after I saw the arcade
version last week.

>>>> New Prices
Extreme Imports lowered their Asian & Japanese Dreamcast

>>>> SOA Reveals Surprize New Website!
SOA's official website, Sega.com, changed over to their
brand new design this week. While there isn't too much
their yet, they do have a mailing list you can join.
"Sega Dreamcast is coming... prepare yourself."
>>>> Sega Sued!
Thanks to Sega X, The Associated Press is reporting that
parents of three Kentucky high school students are
filing a $130 million lawsuit against two internet
sites, Sega of America, Nintendo of America, Sony
Computer Entertainment Inc., and the producers of the
movie "The Basketball Diaries." According to the AP,
the lawsuit is a result of a Dec. 1, 1997 shooting
when three teenagers were fatally wounded. The lawsuit
claims that shooter, Michael Carneal, was provoked by
video games, internet pornography, and violent movies.
We'll keep an eye on how this one turns out.
>>>> Sonic Adventure Remixed
Thanks to Katana-edge & Dreamcast.net, we now know
who is doing the remixed music for the US version
of Sonic Adventure. Chris Vrenna, a percussionist
who frequently plays drums with NIN, Trent Reznor,
and Mark Blasquez.
Vrenna told www.nineinchnails.net/news/ that, "It
actually came through my friend and often partner
Mark Blasquez. He works on a lot of my stuff." To
which Vrenna explains they were given, "a tape of
what the original themes sounded like and we did 2
remixes (almost recreations) of those," says Vrenna.
"One of which, Sonic's main theme, from what I heard
is currently running in Japan as the TV commercial
music for the new system."
>>>> Sega 2000 Changes News System
Recently I've been working on a new way to update the
news at Sega 2000, which means we'll be providing
readers will faster, and more, news updated through
out the day. Using CGI, you won't notice any
difference in the way our news is presented, but one
very good use for it coming up is the E3 for example.
Our reporter will be at the E3, and can put news
online live from the show at any time. Overall this
should provide a much better coverage for our readers.
>>>> Casinopolis Website
Just got an interesting website here,
http://welcome.to/casinopolis
It's unlike any other Sega fan site, in that you pick a
path to go, and play games. There isn't too much there
yet, but more will be added soon.
----------------------------------------------------------
======[ RED HOT RUMORS ]==================================
----------------------------------------------------------
Welcome to a new section of Dreamcast Weekly, each week
we'll keep you upto-date with the latest rumors going around.
>>>> Metal Gear Solid For Dreamcast
Yes, there's been many rumors about this in the past. But
this goes a step further than those that's for sure. Revered
Konami personality, Hideo Kojima, has confirmed plans to
work on his first Dreamcast game. Although nothing has been
revealed about the game itself, Konami reportedly has plans
to release the game sometime near the end of the summer in
Japan. As most of you probably know, Kojima-san is well known
for his work on Metal Gear Solid. After the success of MGS on
the Playstation, a Dreamcast game looks highly lightly.
>>>> Modem & Non Modem Packages For The US
The biggest rumor of this week is that Sega are going to
have a $199 Dreamcast package including the modem, and $149
without. Just see your local forum to see people's views
on wether this is a good idea or not. But please remember,
it's only a rumor
>>>> Square Now A Dreamcast Developer
This isn't the first, and I imagine won't be the last rumor
of Square becoming a DC Developer. In a new SOJ website, they
have links to developers working on Dreamcast, and one of
them is Square.

For those who have House Of The Dead 2, have you noticed
the cats walking around the first 2 levels? I haven't
actually managed to hit one yet, but since the camera
moves to focus on them sometimes I thought maybe something
special might happen. Has anyone shot the cat yet?
