Hard to believe we're almost 1/3 of the way through the
year 2000 isn't it? Well this month marks the beginning of
a new section here at Dreamcast Weekly. Where we go through
all the titles due out in America this month, and do the
same each month from now on. It's a great way to learn
about titles that haven't received much press, before you
spend your money on other games. For example Industrial
Spy: Operation Espionage is a great but little known game
due out this month, and will surely appeal to everyone
annoyed with having to wait so long for Rainbow Six.

There's also more big news this week, including Speed Devils 2,
a US release date for Virtua Tennis, and some news that
according to Sega is going to rock the entire $8 billion
gaming industry this week.

Then if you picked up Resident Evil: Code Veronica, the
cheats page holds the secrets to unlocking extra modes,
characters, and weapons. Good stuff!

Finally we received hundreds of entries for our Crazy Taxi
Guide give-away, and the 5 winners will be e-mailed today
for more details. Hopefully we'll have another similar
contest in the not too far future for those that didn't
win this time. Thanks go out to http://www.PrimaGames.com
for the books!

Until next time Happy Gaming, and remember...

The Game Is Never Over!

>>>> Games For April 2000

>>>> Written by Tails

A new month begins, and with it comes a lineup of 13 new
Dreamcast titles due out in America. Presenting the
Dreamcast Weekly April 2000 Roundup...

>>>> Star Wars Episode 1 Racer - Tuesday 4th - $39.99

Due out the same day as the Star Wars Episode 1 movie
(The movie is even due out in little old New Zealand on
that big day).

While it is a conversion of the PC game, Star Wars Episode
1 Racer does feature impressive speed and reasonable hi-res
graphics, but it doesn't look like they put too much effort
into the conversion, as polygons are more blocky than we're
used to. Further signs that LucasArts have rushed the
Dreamcast version is the lack of 4 player split screen
races. As in the other versions, 2 player racing mode is
included, although I don't see why the Dreamcast can't
handle more.

One high point about the game however is the Internet
Ranking system, allowing players to post their best times
on the net (ala Sonic Adventure). Who is the fastest Pod
Racer on the planet? We'll see.

When it comes down it though, if you already own the PC
game, the enhancements on the Dreamcast version aren't
enough to warrant buying it again. Although if you only
have the Nintendo game, certainly give this title a look.

Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Racing
Anticipation: 7/10

>>>> JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - Tuesday 11th - $49.99

Another Capcom fighter hits the Dreamcast, but does
it have the force to compete with the recently released
Dead Or Alive 2, or how about Street Fighter Alpha 3,
Tech Romancer and Plasma Sword also due out this month?

Well it's one of those titles I suggest trying before
buying (especially for $49.99). Lacking in extra modes,
and a little in the characters department (only 10 plus
secret players, a far cry from 33 in Street Fighter
Alpha 3), the game has little to offer that other
fighters don't. The inclusion of "Stands", extra fighters
that can be called into battle with things get tense is
a nice touch, but again nothing that hasn't been done in
one form or another before.

Try before you buy.

Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Fighting
Anticipation 5/10

>>>> Striker Pro 2000 - Wednesday 12th - $39.99

Not long after the reasonable success of UEFA Striker
on the Dreamcast, Infogrames are almost ready to
release their next title, Striker Pro 2000.

But to my surprise when I was looking up the details
on this title, I also had the details on UEFA
Striker on hand, and the simulatites to Striker Pro
2000 don't look good. The same number of game modes,
and the same number of teams are included to begin
with. Then even the commentary is done by the same
people, Ron Atkinson & Jonathan Pearce.

The game seems more of an update to UEFA than a
different game, only there are just a few months
separating the two titles. Still, if you haven't
already bought UEFA Striker, and are looking for a
Soccer title, this could be a better choice.

Players: 1 - 4
Genre: Sport
Anticipation 5/10

>>>> Plasma Sword - Wednesday 12th - $39.99

Packing 22 polygon generated characters and $10 off
the price of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Plasma Sword
certainly got my attention.

The games weapons are all made out of Plasma (hence
the title), which allows for some fairly spectacular
lighting effects. Where the game lacks the action of
having 4 players on screen at once, it makes up for it
with impressive backgrounds and special effects. In
terms of depth, Plasma Sword contains all the usual
game modes, including Arcade, Vs, Training and Group
Battle. Which while aren't the most original, will
keep fighting fans busy until Street Fighter Alpha 3
is released late this month.

Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Fighting
Anticipation 6/10

>>>> Omikron: The Nomad Soul - Wednesday 12th - $44.99

The PC version was released last October, it impressed
all and received good reviews, and now Dreamcast owners
have a chance to experience Omikron: The Nomad Soul.

For those who enjoyed the adventure of Soul Reaver: Legacy
Of Kain, Omikron sounds even better. The title adds a touch
of the fighting and shooting genres to the adventure mix,
which while risky actually works really well.

Another feature to put the game up above Soul Reaver is
the Virtual Reincarnation system. When your character
dies, your soul can move directly into the first person
who touches your body. This adds a whole new element to
in-game puzzles, and is essential for getting past certain
points in the title. Finally another high selling point
includes an original music score from David Bowie, which
sets the atmosphere just right.

April 12th is the date to watch out for this one.

Players: 1
Genre: Adventure
Anticipation 8/10

>>>> Rainbow Six: Tom Clancy's - Wednesday 12th - $44.99

Well well well, if it isn't the long (and I do mean LONG)
awaited Rainbow Six. I'm taking a bit of a risk putting
it in the April 2000 preview, although perhaps Majesco
will finally complete the title this month... Who knows,
but anyway, onto the actual game...

Anti-terrorists are the stars of this adventure, and
your in charge of the team. Each member has their own
strengths and weaknesses, and it's upto you to decide
who does what job. This is where the tactical aspect
of the game lies, and can go a fair way to deciding the
success or failure of your mission.

There are 22 different missions to complete, including
the PC add-on pack, Eagle Watch. After all, the title is
a PC conversion (although given the development time,
I imagine Majesco could have written an entirely new
version for the Dreamcast).

Players: 1
Genre: Action
Anticipation 7/10

>>>> Tech Romancer - Thursday 20th - $29.99

Another Capcom fighter due out this month, and with
all the other titles, it's going to be a hard time
deciding just which to spend your hard earned cash on.
Which brings us to a high point about Tech Romancer,
retailing for just $29.99.

Now the question has to come, why so cheap? Well Tech
Romancer is a very little known arcade title, even
though it's Capcom's most original fighter from them in
a long time. To begin with their are 12 robots to select
from (yep no humans in this game), but the gameplay is
really where the new additions come in.

To begin with if you win the first round of a fight,
your health doesn't recover like the loser of the battle.
Even though damage does repair after some time, it leads
to some interesting new strategy's. Add in a totally new
control scheme, power-ups, armor, and interactive
backgrounds, and what you have is a seriously fun fighter
that's worth checking out.

Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Fighting
Anticipation 8/10

>>>> Grand Theft Auto 2 - Friday 21st - $49.99

Most people have heard of Grand Theft Auto. The
title received lots of attention on the PC a few
years back. Probably because you take control of the
bad guys for one. Yes your in a gang, and stealing
cars, speeding away from cops, shooting people down,
and blowing up buildings are all in a days work.

The game uses a top-down perspective, although it's
still 3D. The faster you go, the further the camera
zooms out. It may seem strange, and take a little
getting used to if your comparing this to "Driver",
but it suits the game well.

All of the best parts from the original are in,
including those blood red tire marks as you run
someone over and hit the breaks at the same time
(oh lovely!), but there's much more to the sequel.
The addition of 7 different gangs all in the one city
makes for an interesting start, and of course there's
brand new levels, 75 different missions, and a wide
selection of new vehicles and guns to choose from.

This game deserves a rent at the very least, and for
many is a no-brainer purchase.

Players: 1
Genre: Action
Anticipation 9/10

>>>> F1 World Grand Prix - Wednesday 26th - $39.99

Dreamcast owners are still waiting for an F1 title
to impress, and where Sega and Ubisoft have failed,
Video Systems may well succeed.

The game naturally has the backing of the official
Formula 1 license, so everything in the world of
F1 looks how it should. But Video Systems have gone
one step further here, actually re-creating the weather
conditions of each race from the 1998 season.

The games realism is adjustable, which is good news
for new comers like me, which have trouble breaking
and going around corners so slowly. Computer-assisted
acceleration and braking can be turned on as you get
to learn the tricks of the F1 cars.

With all the usual game modes, if your thinking about
buying this title it should be based on the graphics,
speed, and detail of the options. If your even slightly
interested in the genre, and all of the above seem right
to you, I don't think you'll regret picking up F1 World
Grand Prix.

Players: 1 - 2
Genre: Racing
Anticipation 7/10

>>>> Caesars Palace 2000 - Wendesday 26th - $49.99

Not much could be found on this title, although the
title is the latest in Interplay's gambling series.
Caesars Palace is the virtual casino, including games
such as Craps, Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, Video Poker,
Mini-Baccarat, Keno, and Poker Challenge.

If you really enjoy Casino's, this is the only title
on the Dreamcast for you. But for most people however,
the $50 is almost certainly better spent somewhere
else.

Players: 1 - 4
Genre: Simulation
Anticipation 4/10

>>>> Maken X - Wednesday 26th - $39.99

Maken X is a first person shooter with a difference.
Not unlike Omikron: The Nomad Soul due out earlier
this month, you don't spend too long in the original
character's body. To get through the games 20 levels,
including a good deal of exploration and puzzle
solving, you'll need to swap bodies every so often.

There are 13 different people you can possess, which
may seem a little small, but they all effect the games
ending. Which in theory would mean you'll have to
complete the game 13 times to see everything, but
quite how much the ending is changed remains to be
seen.

The depth in the storyline of Maken X is a high point,
but the game it's self is very dark. From the gloomy
but atmospheric graphics, to the rather strong
music that you either love or take little notice of.
If you haven't been reading up on this title over the
last few months, give it a go first, but if you
have, chances are you already know if this title
appeals to you or not.

Players: 1
Genre: Shooting
Anticipation 7/10

>>>> Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Thursday 27th - $44.99

Given all different games in the Street Fighter series,
you can bet Capcom have learnt a thing or two about
the genre. Well Street Fighter Alpha 3 puts all of
that knowledge into one game, and makes it a must-have
for any fighting fan.

To begin with it has a whopping 33 characters,
including all of the original Street Fighter II
fighters. Then throw in the ability to have 3 players
battling it out on screen at once, including battles
such as player & player Vs computer etc... And did
I see something about Internet Enhancements?

Once the player has defeated three difficult
student-level characters, they advance to challenge
the powerful master character. Players only need to
defeat the student characters once in order to fight
the various master characters that will be offered
through the internet. Capcom currently plans to
introduce two master characters per week, each based
on a familiar character with new skills and
devastating attacks. Utilizing a well-designed menu
system, players will be able to access Capcom's
download and home page easily and seamlessly.

Again, if you like fighting games, this is almost
certainly a must-have title.

Players: 1 - 3
Genre: Fighting
Anticipation 9/10

>>>> Industrial Spy: Op. Espionage - Saturday 29th - $44.99

Very little has been written about this title, although
for anyone interested in Rainbow Six, this game deserves
your attention. As the title suggests, Industrial
Espionage is the aim of the game. You command a team of
8 agents, each with their own particular talent, from
hacking computers to hypnotizing subjects. Then how well
you use them and their talents gives you a score at the
end of each level. You act as the director of your
agents, and can view them all on multiple screens. The
key is being able to anticipate danger and get your
agents through it.

There are 10 different levels to choose from which, may
seem a little small but UFO Interactive, the developers,
are promising 30 hours of gameplay.

If you think the challenge sounds exciting, and Rainbow
Six slips past it's release date again, then as I said,
this title certainly deserves your attention. Don't let
it go by un-noticed.

>>>> Speed Devils 2 This Year!

Release schedules can bring news of some of best upcoming
titles before developers actually announce them to the
public. Dino Crisis was last weeks, and this week it's
Speed Devils 2.

EBworld.com has the title listed for release on the 2nd
of October 2000, for the price of $39.99. Now while those
date and prices may change in the coming months, it's good
to know the title is in development.

>>>> Major Sega News On April 4

This is the news you don't want to miss! Sega is changing
the future of console gaming with the roll out of a new

anything.

People in the know have simply said, "it is absolutely
huge...prepare to be somewhat pleased with Sega...",
and "It should really be great for Sega fans." If
you don't regularly check Sega news sites, April 4th
might be a good time to stop by one.

>>>> MP3 & VCD

Q) Is there any MP3 or Video CD player for the dreamcast
currently, or is it planned to come out anytime soon?
   - Ahsan

A) The portable MP3 playing VMU was actually revealed
this weekend at the Tokyo Game Show. Although no release
date or any other details were given, it does confirm
the accessory is in development. Expect more details
early next month. As for a Video CD Player however, it
looks very unlikely. A DVD playing add-on has a better
   chance.

>>>> Resurrect Castlevania Once More!

Q) What is the big problem w/ Castlevania Resurrection?
Don't they know that DC owners have been frothing at
the mouth for this???? One of the biggest titles that
got me excited about buying my DC on Launch date, was
the promise of this title coming out. Now they have
just about buried it! Why???? Did this not already
come out in Japan??? - Vincent

A) No the game hadn't been released anywhere, and no one
had seen new screens from the game in a long time.
Still, I was hoping for a big E3 revealing of the
title. Instead it was canned, with no given reason.
Many Dreamcast gamers are the world feel your pain.

>>>> What Happened To Tomb Raider 4?

Q) What ever happened to tomb raider 4 coming out for
Dreamcast. I read in the march issue of the official
dreamcast magazine that it was confirmed and was
supposed to come out in march. So what's the story?
   - Joey

A) It did. The game is in stores now :)

O DC Double Power!

As mentioned last week, Lik-Sang have a new product called

This item is for all those hardcore video game players
with a Arcade Machine in their home or even for Arcade
