Metal Gear Solid 2. Castlevania: Resurrection. A Playstation emulator
for the Dreamcast. Quake 3 Release Date. Got your attention yet? Well in
this issue news on all 4 is revealed. And you thought Castlevania was
canned... (oh ok so we did too).
Other high points of this week are our "Games Of May 2000" round-up,
including the gore-fest that is Nightmare Creatures 2. A 336 page guide
to Half Life in the Prima Games Corner, colored VMU Replacement Cases
at Lik-Sang, and everything from Shining Force 3 to Resident Evil: Code
Veronica in our Q&A page.
Finally, we got an e-mail this week from a reader, Paul Maychrzak who
wanted to say something about Prima Games...
"I never bought game guides in the past, but since they began supporting
your great newsletter I have bought a couple, and have thoroughly
enjoyed them, they definitely give gamers a new dimension of the game
past what is in the instruction book, and can be a great trainer for
people who don't want to sit with a game for 10 hours before they can
understand it.... Please pass this on to the... Great Job Prima!!!!!"
Thanks for your feedback, and yes I passed your comments onto Prima,
also thanks to all our other readers that sent in suggestions! Until
next week then Happy Gaming, and remember... The Game Is Never Over!

>>>> Games For May 2000
>>>> Written by Tails
A new month begins, and with it comes a lineup of 9 new Dreamcast titles
due out in America. Presenting the Dreamcast Weekly May 2000 Roundup...
>>>> Rainbow Six: Tom Clancy's - Tuesday 9th - $44.99
Yes the game has finally shipped to the retailers, to be released an
amazing 8 months after it's original date as a launch title. Will it
be worth the wait? Reviews will hit the net this week, but while we
wait for those, here's the low down on what the game's all about...
Anti-terrorists are the stars of Rainbow Six, and your in charge of the
team. Each member has their own strengths and weaknesses, and it's up to
you to decide who does what job. This is where the tactical aspect of
the game lies, and can go a fair way to deciding the success or failure
of your mission.
There are 22 different missions to complete, including the PC add-on
pack, Eagle Watch. After all, the title is a PC conversion (although
given the development time, I imagine Majesco could have written an
entirely new version for the Dreamcast).

>>>> Striker Pro 2000 - Thursday 11th - $39.99
If Sega's arcade conversion of Virtua Striker 2: ver 2000.1 left you
wanting more out of a soccer game, Infogrames Striker Pro 2000 may be
just what the doctor ordered.
The game packs in the advantages over Virtua Striker, including
different weather effects, from Sunny, Rainy, and even Snowy, and play
by play commentary. Ron Atkinson & Jonathan Pearce have done the honors
here, and give a very realistic feel to the match as they discuss the
game between each other. There's also a team editor, which lets you play
with every aspect of the uniforms. Not quite up to the standard of
NBA 2K's player editor, but still good never the less.
The bottom line is if your a fan of soccer games, you should at the
least give this one a rent.

>>>> Omikron: The Nomad Soul - Wednesday 17th - $44.99
May the 17th is now the date to watch out for this one, as it was pushed
back from April the 12th.
The PC version was released last October, it impressed all and received
good reviews, and now Dreamcast owners have a chance to experience
Omikron: The Nomad Soul. For those who enjoyed the adventure of Soul
Reaver: Legacy Of Kain, Omikron sounds even better. The title adds a
touch of the fighting and shooting genres to the adventure mix, which
while risky actually works really well.
Another feature to put the game up above Soul Reaver is the Virtual
Reincarnation system. When your character dies, your soul can move
directly into the first person who touches your body. This adds a whole
new element to in-game puzzles, and is essential for getting past
certain points in the title. Finally another high selling point includes
an original music score from David Bowie, which sets the atmosphere just
right.

Anticipation 8/10
>>>> Street Fighter Alpha 3 - Thursday 18th - $44.99
Given all different games in the Street Fighter series, you can bet
Capcom have learnt a thing or two about the genre. Well Street Fighter
Alpha 3 puts all of that knowledge into one game, and makes it a
must-have for any fighting fan.
To begin with it has a whopping 33 characters, including all of the
original Street Fighter II fighters. Then throw in the ability to have
3 players battling it out on screen at once, including battles such as
player & player Vs computer etc... And did I see something about
Internet Enhancements?
Once the player has defeated three difficult student-level characters,
they advance to challenge the powerful master character. Players only
need to defeat the student characters once in order to fight the
various master characters that will be offered through the internet.
Capcom currently plans to introduce two master characters per week,
each based on a familiar character with new skills and devastating
attacks. Utilizing a well-designed menu system, players will be able
to access Capcom's download and home page easily and seamlessly.
Again, if you like fighting games, this is almost certainly a
must-have title.

>>>> Tech Romancer - Mid May - $29.99
Ok so last month I commented on how many fighting games were being
released. Well 2 of them got pushed back into May, Tech Romancer being
one of them...
Another Capcom fighter due out this month, and with all the other
titles, it's going to be a hard time deciding just which to spend your
hard earned cash on. Which brings us to a high point about Tech
Romancer, retailing for just $29.99.
Now the question has to come, why so cheap? Well Tech Romancer is a very
little known arcade title, even though it's Capcom's most original
fighter from them in a long time. To begin with their are 12 robots to
select from (yep no humans in this game), but the gameplay is really
where the new additions come in.
To begin with if you win the first round of a fight, your health doesn't
recover like the loser of the battle. Even though damage does repair
after some time, it leads to some interesting new strategy's. Add in a
totally new control scheme, power-ups, armor, and interactive
backgrounds, and what you have is a seriously fun fighter that's worth
checking out.
Players: 1 - 2

Anticipation 8/10
>>>> Tony Hawk Pro Skater - Wednesday 24th - $49.99
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater was an instant hit on the Playstation. Mastering
all the tricks was a challenge everyone wanted to have a go at, while
the levels filled with amazing jumps and half pipes got them hooked.
There's plenty of real life characters to play as, and different boards
to play on. Not too different from Trick Style, but with many more
characters, and naturally less hovering. The competition in Tony Hawk
is red hot, including a 4-player split screen mode, and many new single
player games.
Further Dreamcast additions include extra options, better graphics, and
apparently a few surprises.
Players: 1 - 4
Genre: Sports
Anticipation 9/10
>>>> Nightmare Creatures 2 - Wednesday 24th - $44.99
I have to admit there are always a few games that slip past, and I don't
know much about them at all. Nightmare Creatures 2 was one of those. Now
I've seen the screens, and read the previews however, I'm certainly
grossed out! Excellent.
Nightmare Creatures 2 looks great, and is certainly not for the younger
gamer. Starring Herbert Wallace, a mutilated walking corpse wrapped up
like a mummy, and holding a blood stained axe! The object being to
make your way through the levels, in the hope of getting revenge on the
evil scientist that made him what he is today.
Battles are the heart of the game, as you fight against creatures which
really are the deepest, darkest of nightmares. When you win, usually
achieved by body parts flying across the room, and blood spraying all
over the place, it's on to find your next victim.
A game best played with the lights off, and our most anticipated game
of the month (who's gonna walk up to Mr. Wallace and tell him other
wise?)

Genre: Adventure
Anticipation 10/10
>>>> Caesars Palace 2000 - Wendesday 24th - $49.99
Not much could be found on this title, although the title is the latest
in Interplay's gambling series. Caesars Palace is the virtual casino,
including games such as Craps, Blackjack, Roulette, Slots, Video Poker,
Mini-Baccarat, Keno, and Poker Challenge.
If you really enjoy Casino's, this is the only title on the Dreamcast
for you. But for most people however, the $50 is almost (almost?)
certainly better spent somewhere else.
Players: 1 - 4
Genre: Simulation
Anticipation 3/10
>>>> Industrial Spy: Op. Espionage - Monday 29th - $44.99
Very little has been written about this title, although for anyone
interested in Rainbow Six, this game deserves your attention. As the
title suggests, Industrial Espionage is the aim of the game. You command
a team of 8 agents, each with their own particular talent, from hacking
computers to hypnotizing subjects. Then how well you use them and their
talents gives you a score at the end of each level. You act as the
director of your agents, and can view them all on multiple screens. The
key is being able to anticipate danger and get your agents through it.
There are 10 different levels to choose from which, may seem a little
small but UFO Interactive, the developers, are promising 30 hours of
gameplay.
If you think the challenge sounds exciting, and Rainbow Six has you
wanting more of this spy action, this title certainly deserves your
attention. Don't let it go by un-noticed.

>>>> Bleemcast: Playstation Games On Your Dreamcast
Most people have at least heard of Bleem, the PC program that allows you
to run Playstation games on your computer. The worlds first commercial
emulator if you will. Naturally Sony tried numerous times to stop Bleem
from making it to retailers, saying the program was a breach of Sony's
patents, however Bleem was developed in all new code, so didn't break
any copyrights nor patents.
But wait until you hear what's going to be revealed at this years E3
show... Sony is gonna go nuts! Presenting Bleemcast, the Playstation
emulator for the Dreamcast. The domain names Bleemcast.com, .net, and
.org were all registered this week by a member of the Bleem team, along
with many sources across the Internet being informed that Bleem have
a Dreamcast product to reveal at this years E3.
While Bleem doesn't run every Playstation game like the Playstation 2
does, it certainly improves the graphics further than Sony's backwards
compatibility software. Also without the limits of making Bleemcast
run on every different PC and 3D card under the sun, developers of the
emulator should be able to really harness the Dreamcast's true 3D
power.
Expect full details to go public at the end of this week, along with a
long and hard battle between Sony's and Bleem's lawyers once again.
>>>> Castlevania: Resurrection, Metal Gear Solid 2 & Silent Scope
Konami recently opened their brand new US website, along with some
surprising news! First up Castlevania: Resurrection wasn't canned,
just pushed back. The game won't be released this year, although it's
still in development for the Dreamcast. Several new shots were released,
and the graphics are simply stunning, in particular the magical lighting
effects. You can see the screens for yourself at their website
- http://www.konami.com/main/
Also revealed is that Konami is considering developing Metal Gear Solid
2 for the Dreamcast. The game is currently only listed for the
Playstation 2, but if Sega's machine is doing well enough when it comes
to the release date, a Dreamcast version will be put into production.
Which does bring up questions like what exactly is "doing well", but at
the very least it's good news to Metal Gear Solid fans who thought the
sequel had no change of seeing the light of day on the Dreamcast.
Finally Silent Scope, Konami's arcade sniper game is also on it's way.
Although the game won't have a special sniper style controller (games
and guns are a risky area at the moment), the developers have promised
a new controller interface which will bring the excitement of the arcade
game into your living room.
>>>> Quake 3: Arena Release Date!
So when will the biggest online console game of history be released?
The Dreamcast conversion of Quake 3: Arena is due out on August 28th
2000 according to retailer EB. This date will likely be confirmed or
expanded on at the E3 show late this week.
>>>> Tokyo Extreme Racer 2 Coming To The US
Crave, the company that handled bringing the original Tokyo Extreme
Racer to the US, and most recently did the Dreamcast conversion for
Tony Hawk Skate boarding, will be porting over Tokyo Extreme Racer 2.
The game will be released in the US this fall, and features a track far
longer than in the original (six times longer to be exact), along with
31 brand new cars to race in. New modes include Quest games, Quick mode,
Free Run, Time Attack and Auto Cross.

((( RED HOT RUMORS ))) - Page 4 -
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the rumors section of Dreamcast Weekly, each week we'll keep
you up to-date with the latest rumors going around.
>>>> Price Drop At The E3?
Will Sega drop the Dreamcast's price at the E3 show? Rumors this week
would suggest no. Sega is playing their $200 rebate or Free Dreamcast
cards for now, but that doesn't leave the possibility of a price drop
this year out all together. The rumors suggest a price drop will be
announced later in 2000, before the Playstation 2 launches. Then with
the Sega Network going online at the same time, Sega certainly are
putting up a good fight against Sony.
>>>> Taking Off The Sega Brand?
The only other rumor I've picked up this week has been of Sega planning
to remove their logo from the front of the Dreamcast consoles. Which to
be honest I don't believe for a second. This was originally going to
happen before the Dreamcast was launched in Japan, but Sega wisely
changed their minds. Why they would change them back is beyond me, and
doesn't make any sense when Sega is on it's way to fixing it's
reputation with the Dreamcast. This is one rumor I doubt we'll hear
anything more on.
It's always good to keep an eye on the competition, and this week
there's bad news for both Nintendo and Sony...
>>>> Barnes + Noble + Funco – EB = Big Co.
B&N swallows what EB spat out, creating the largest game retailer in the
world. As God is our witness, you'll never say "Funco" again.
stumble upon the trés cool "Final Fantasy" movie site.
>>>> Shining Force 3 Just A Dream?
Q) Yo, madd rumors about a Shining Force 3 trilogy w/Premium Disk for
the Dreamcast! Can you confirm? - Kevin
A) That would be great, but so far your the only person I've heard the
rumor from. Still, we can hope.
>>>> Sega Swirl
Q) Is it true that you can download Sega Swirl at Download.com? Plus,
Is there any conformation on a racing game featuring Sonic, Tails,
Knuckles and so on? I love this mag! ---Fuzzbuzz Joe
A) Yes you can, but you can also download it from www.segaswirl.com .
As for the Sonic racing game, looks like the rumors turned out to be
false, and Sonic Shuffle, the multi player puzzle game is coming out
instead for now.
>>>> Dreamcast's Freezing Up
Q) My dreamcast keeps on freezing... My games are not scratched and I
don't know what to do. Please tell me how to fix this problem. This
problem is preventing me from playing my games to the max. - William
A) http://www.sega.com/customer_service/index.shtml is the best place
to go for hardware problems. Sounds like your Dreamcast console is
faulty.
>>>> Where's Our Dreamcast Magazine?
Q) My names Andrew and i live in Hobart, Tasmania and I am a Dreamcast
enthusiast. I just wanted to ask a few questions so here they are:
1) Will there be an official Australian Dreamcast magazine coming out
or is it already out?
2) If so, would it be having a demo disc?
3) Would you be able to tell me if Resident Evil: Code Veronica is
going to have a 60 Hz option to select?
4) In future will more games be having the 60 Hz mode option?
Well thanks for you time Tails and I hope you answer or publish my
questions. - Andrew R Lee
A) 1) No, unfortunately the magazine got canned.
2) No, but some game stores import UK Magazines with their CD's.
3) The details of the PAL conversion have yet to be announced,
although I'd bet on a 60 Hz mode yes.
4) Yes, but in some ways 50 Hz is better, as the quality of
graphics are improved.
>>>> Importing Capcom's Online Games
Q) First I'd like to thank you for a great on-line mag. my question
is: I have a modified American Dreamcast(plays both J&A games),
and I live in the UAE. Is it possible to play online games from
here (MvC2,SFIII:3rd) and what would the connection speed have to
be to accomplish that? - Sammy
A) No, online games in Japan use a special phone network, which means
you have to live there to play, or have a very, very expensive
phone bill.
>>>> Good News For You...
Q) Great mag guys. One quick question....what can you tell me 'bout
Metal Gear Solid for DC. It kicked ass for PS. Thanx - Matt Martineu
A) The original isn't coming to the Dreamcast... but check this weeks
news page for the sequel. If the Dreamcast is doing well enough by
the sequels release date, a Sega version will go into production.
>>>> Lik-Sang Update:
O Colored VMU Replacement Cases
Lik-Sang now have 3rd party replacement cases for Sega's VMU. They come
in clear blue, clear light green and clear pink, and include a free
strap. For just US$9.99 I imagine these will be very popular. As it
says on their website, bring colors into your grey DC life.
http://www.Lik-Sang.com
Lik-Sang don't pay Dreamcast Weekly in exchange for writing about them
each week, after the great feedback we've had for our readers about
them, we just believe they are the best importer on the web.
>>>> NextGenVideos:
O E3 Coverage
If you've downloaded one of their game video's, you know to expect the
best in quality. The same goes for their E3 movies, which they will
post on their website all through the show, and even long after it's
finished! Also look out for the special E3 News Zone link from the
main page this week.
http://www.NextGenVideos.com
Why are they featured in Dreamcast Weekly? Because the movies are quite
possibly of the highest quality on the net, that's why. If you haven't
checked them out yet, now's a good time to start.
