Hi. Enjoy this issue. Gotta go.

After playing Quake 3 Arena and writing the review, doing the same with
Jet Grind Radio, and soon Shenmue... keeping up with Dreamcast Weekly is
going to be the biggest test of my will power in years. I'm just dying
to play another game of Jet Grind Radio right now... if you haven't
bought the game yet, perhaps you should read our full review of the
title in this weeks cover story.

Then if you think your a pro at Jet Grind Radio, if you think you've
seen it all, check out this weeks cheats page for a few surprises you
can work for :)

Or is Shenmue more your thing? Well this weeks grab from the net is a
list to tell you if your taking the Shenmue experience a little too
seriously. Be sure to read the Sega On The Web page and take the test.
Plus in the News page you won't believe how well Shenmue is selling
in the US!!

Finally our Question & Answer page completes the issue, with wise words
on the Sega Smash Pack, big screen TV's, and more.

Until next time then, Happy Gaming, and I'm off to play again... ;)

HOT QUOTE this issue: "I was wondering if the Sega Smash Pack,

or will it be sold separate so the people that already own a Dreamcast
can get it too?"

>>>> Jet Grind Radio Review
     -- Written by Tails

Slap on ya skates, arm yourself with spray cans, turn up the tunes, and
get ready to rock with Jet Grind Radiiiiiooooooooooooooooooooo. The
streets of Tokyo-to are about to be turned into a war-zone as rival
gangs move in on each others territory. To the west, we have those
freaky high-tech dudes called the Noise Tanks. In the east, the Poison
Jam, a twisted bunch of perverts with crazy masks, and in Shibuya-cho to
the south are the GG's, a knarly bunch who seem to be treading on
everybody's toes.

It's up to you to make sure the GG's mark is in the face of every
Tokyo-to citizen. Moving through the districts, you'll claim the streets
as your own, but not if Captain Onishima and his police force,
helicopters, and barrels of tear-gas have anything to say about it.

From the moment you boot up the virtual world of Tokyo-to, you know this
games got the right stuff. Jet Grind Radio is on a beat like no other,
and I'm not just talking about the whacked-out stick-in-your-head music.
Fresh gameplay mixing the dance genre with action, adventure, and
attitude is once again Sega's recipe for original success, but that's
only the start.

First seen in a few screen shots, the graphics of Jet Grind Radio have
instant appeal, making use of a brand new technique called cell-shading.
In the way Shenmue turns heads with it's unbelievable realism, these
streets catch your eyes with their bright vibrant colours, and cool
cartoonish style. Don't be put off by the mention of 'cartoon' though,
these characters could have jumped off the latest MTV cult hit, not from
the minds of Disney.

Unfortunately on the topic of graphics, there is a little pop-up lurking
around corners, but given the amount of detail in these streets, it's
only a minor concern, and after an hour or two of gaming you won't even
notice it. The game goes to great efforts to hide pop-up, making it
fade-in rather than simply appear from nothing, and only the smaller
details pop-up, hence there's no appearing buildings or walls at the
last minute.

Now if the in-your-face eye candy isn't enough to keep you coming back
to Jet Grind Radio, the unique background music certainly will. From
rock to pop, and techno to just plain bizarre, Jet Grind Radio has it
all. With the expectation of one Japanese-pop song, "Super Brother"
(but that's a personal note), this game has one of THE best soundtracks
in videogame history. This isn't background music, it's part of the
game. The beats of Jet Grind Radio have as much impact on you as the
graphics, something I haven't heard of in years, and another perfect
reason to buy this game. What's more, the tunes almost never stop.
Right through the loading screens, the music just keeps pumping. Then
when the in-game tracks change, instead of cutting, they merge into
each other like a Saturday night dance mix, making the game a non-stop
party.

Before getting too dazzled by the games lights and sounds, given that
a graffiti title has never been attempted before, how on earth would you
control such a game? Well this is Sega, the company behind NiGHTS,
Sonic, and Virtua Tennis. Games with simple yet deep control systems
that anyone can pick up and play, but to master it takes months. The A
button is used to jump, while L sprays graffiti, and R gives you a
short boost of speed.

Sounds almost too simple, but don't worry, there's more to it than
that. When you find an arrow pointing down to where you should spray
graffiti, and after pressing the L trigger, the game puts your control
technique to the test. Using the analog pad, you must rotate it in the
directions shown on screen to use your spray can. For example it might
get you to rotate 360 degrees left, 180 right, then another 360 left.
If you pull all the commands off with no mistake, your graffiti is
complete. Mess up, and you have to try it again. Each attempt uses a
spray can, which you must collect from around the level.

Then there's extra techniques such as skating backwards, riding along
the rails, using walls to get an extra high jump, and earning points
from tricks. Pack that with loads of levels (including a bonus US
city!), and many other challenges such as trying to copy to other
skaters moves (so they become a playable character!), and you'll be
spending most of your life in the streets of Tokyo-to. Jet Grind
Radio certainly has any worries of lastability covered, also
featuring the ability to design your own graffiti tags, or even
download JPG files off the net.

The graffiti editor has almost every option you could want, truly
letting you create your own master-piece of modern day art. Although
it's a pity these graphics take up so much VMU space, ranging from
small to extra large, your designs will take from 18 to 66 blocks
of memory each. Huge chunks out of your VMU compared to the 4 blocks
the game uses to save it's normal data.

But these little faults, like the pop-up, saving space, and then a few
poor camera angles mean nothing in the grand scale of things. The pop-up
is minimized, if your in need of saving space get a 4X Memory Card, and
the camera angle can be re-set with the press of a button.

Make no mistake, even with the minor problems this or other reviews
point out, Jet Grind Radio is a party of a game, bringing gameplay,
music, and graphics together at last to form one almost perfect game
you'll keep coming back to for years to come. Join the GG's in Tokyo-to
today, then skate and spray your way to the top with Jet Grind
Radiiiiiooooooooooooooooooooo.....

Graphics: 96%
- Bright and eye catching, the games original style graphics will turn
  heads everywhere the game goes.

Sound: 99%
- One of the best soundtracks to a game, ever. The beat will be part of
  your body for ever more.

Gameplay: 99%
- Original gameplay that doesn't fit into any one genre, but with
  controls so easy yet deep, anyone can pick up a controller and go.

Lastability: 97%
- Since the game arrived I've been on a diet of only Jet Grind Radio.
  It's hard to imagine how they could improve upon this title, but
  random graffiti locations is one possible idea.

OVERALL: 98%
- I honestly thought about a 99% rating here. Jet Grind Radio has been
  compared to classics such as NiGHTS, and I have to agree.

>>>> Metropolis SR Delay - Another One

Just when you thought the delays were over, and just when Metropolis SR
gets a release in Europe, Americans think they are safe in getting the
game this month. But at the last minute the game was pushed back due to
bugs in the European version. Sega Of America would like time to test
the game, and apparently they would like a few months. Metropolis SR has
been delayed till January for the states.

>>>> Shenmue Tops US Charts!

How are Americans adapting to Yu Suzuki's new type of game, Shenmue?
Well it's toped the PC data charts, gathering sales data from stores
across the states. That's one amazing result when you see the other
titles that made the list, including the latest Pokemon games.

1) Shenmue, Sega, Dreamcast, $50
2) Pokemon Silver, Nintendo, Game Boy Color, $28
3) Pokemon Gold, Nintendo, Game Boy Color, $28
4) Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Nintendo, Nintendo 64, $61
5) NBA 2K1, Sega, Dreamcast, $50
6) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Activision, Dreamcast, $49
7) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Activision, PSOne, $40
8) The World Is Not Enough, Electronic Arts, Nintendo 64, $50
9) Madden NFL 2001, Electronic Arts, PlayStation2, $49
10) Madden NFL 2001, Electronic Arts, PSOne, $40

>>>> Shenmue Hits The Big Screen!

Sega of America this week launched a nationwide in-theater promotional
campaign for "Shenmue," the most highly anticipated Dreamcast game of
the year. Created by legendary videogame developer Yu Suzuki, "Shenmue"
is a critically acclaimed cinematic experience that challenges the
limitations of traditional videogame genres. The in-theater campaign
runs from November 10 through December 7, 2000, and includes
participation from leading U.S. theaters including AMC, GCC, Clearview,
Cinema Star and others. The four-week campaign also incorporates lobby
exposure including character displays and posters.

"'Shenmue' is incredibly cinematic featuring immersive 3D worlds,
dynamic lighting and camera angles that you would expect to see in a
major motion picture," said Robert Alvarez, product manager, Sega of
America. "In-theater advertising is an excellent vehicle to show off
both the depth of the game and the capabilities of the Dreamcast
hardware."

 (((  RED HOT RUMORS  )))                                     | Page 4 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each week here we'll keep you up to-date with the latest rumors going
around, but please remember these are only rumors.
>>>> Squaresoft Employees Vote For Dreamcast?
Recently Square ran a poll on their European website,
http://www.square-europe.com/ asking you the gamers what console they
should develop on. While the poll is now over, and the results have yet
to come out, but from several people, including myself who voted just
before the end, the results might have been around...
Nintendo Gamecube: 53%
Sega Dreamcast: 37%
Sony Playstation 2: 8%
Microsoft X-Box: 2%
But please note these are certainly not the final results themselves.
Anyway, the rumors continue that the employees at Squaresoft also voted,
and the Dreamcast was a clear winner between them. So does this mean a
better chance the Square logo will appear on Dreamcast? This could
prove an interesting turn of events.
each week, although we're sorry we are unable to personally reply to all
the e-mails.
>>>> 4X Memory Card Ponderings
Q) I've been meaning to get a new Memory Card soon, but I cannot decide
   between Sega's new 4X Memory Card, or a standard DC VMU. Will the 4X
   have a screen? Thanks 4 the help. - Poke-A-Man
A) The 4X card will not have a screen. It will have four separate memory
   banks rather then using one that is compressed. This should keep
   your games safe from loss. However, SOA has not yet confirmed they
   will be bringing out the 4X Memory Card. EBWorld.com does lists a
   Sega brand 4X Memory Card as shipping 11/22/00 take from that what
   you will. Both Europe and Japan will see the card around the time
   that Phantasy Star Online ships.
>>>> You'll Burn Your Eyes Out!
Q) I was wondering if there is any danger in playing Dreamcast on a big
   screen projection TV? Thanks. - Dennis Dylo
A) It depends on who you ask. My friend has a brand new Sony big screen
   projection TV and has logged more hours with his Dreamcast on that
   TV then most people ever do in a life time. He has yet to see any
   burn in. He usually only plays about 5 hours at a time though.
   Problems with burn in seem to have been mainly a problem of older
   projection TV's. If you keep it short and don't leave it paused all
   night you should be ok. There is some risk, but how much of a risk
   depends on how you treat it.
>>>> Sega Smash Pack
Q) Hello, I was wondering if the Sega Smash Pack, mentioned last week
   will only be sold with the special Dreamcast deal or will it be sold
   separate so the people that already own a Dreamcast can get it too?
   I am a big fan of some of these games, but I don't want to go out
   and buy another Dreamcast to get them. Thanks. - Victor Plotner
A) The games included with the Sega Smash Pack should be released
   separately at some point. Virtual Cop 2 has already been mentioned
   as being part of Sega's All Stars line. As for the rest of the
   games I can only assume that Sega will release them as a 10 on 1
   GD-Rom deal later. Much like NAMCO and Midway have done with old
   arcade classics. When Sega will do this I don't know yet. I assume
   that it will be when the Sega Smash Pack hits the shelves or soon
   after. The Smash Pack/Dreamcast combo hits shelves sometime in
   January. Keep an eye on this section because I'm sure I'll have
   an update on this soon.
The great guys (and gals) at the Dreamcast Technical Pages Forum have
come up with a list to help you see if your taking Shenmue a little too
seriously.
Thanks to Dural:
1) You feel guilty when you forget to feed the cat.
2) You try to make it home early the next night, so as to not upset the
   housekeeper.
3) You drink an ice coffee each morning for your daily caffeine fix.
4) You want to use a washroom after drinking too many drinks from the
   vending machine.
5) You have a crush on the girl in the Tomato mart.
6) You also have a crush on the girl at the hotdog stand.
7) You get upset when someone is rude to you in the game.
8) You try to eat those snacks you buy at the store.
9) You wonder if the cut on your face is ever going to heal.
10) You go early to bed to get a good nights sleep.
Thanks to z167704:
11) You make sure all the lights that aren't being used in the house
    are off before you leave.
12) You visit the You Arcade every saturday. To play some games, and to
    check if your high score is still there.
13) You don't run down streets when people are around. You might look
    funny.
14) You buy a different flavour of soda every once and a while, just to
    try something new.
15) You shadow box in the park... with your shadow...
16) You think about "borrowing" something... like a parked bicycle when
    no one is around. Hey it's not stealing, it's just a video game...
17) You worry about spending too much cash on toys.
18) You step out of a building and suddenly you turn away from the game
    and look out the window and think, "Wow is it that late already?",
    and its 3:30 in the afternoon.
19) You walk down stairs, never run. You might fall.
20) You try to find a bathroom in the game when you have to use the
    bathroom.
