>>>> Christmas 2000 Buyers Guide
     -- Written by Tails

With some many titles out on the Dreamcast, over 40 new games this month
alone, deciding which games to get is going to tough. So print off this
buyers guide and it will help you see what the sure fire hits are, and
which is the right game for you. Maybe even highlight a few titles and
"accidentally" leave the list in your parents bedroom ;)

Each game, along with it's price and number of players is listed,
followed by a round up of each genre to help narrow the list down even
further. As with all of DC Weekly, this is best viewed in Courier New
Font, prices as of 27/11 at EBWorld.com

>>>> ACTION:

Crazy Taxi - $19.99 - 1 Player
Fur Fighters - $29.99 - 1 to 4 Players
Jet Grind Radio - $49.99 - 1 Player
Quake 3 Arena - $49.99 - 1 to 4 Players + Online

Quite a range of games fall under the action category, from the insane
arcade action of Crazy Taxi, to the online shooting of Quake 3 Arena. My
twelve year old friends just love Crazy Taxi, and despite only being one
player, the game has time limit features to make sure everyone can have
a turn to show off their crazy driving.

Then comes Fur Fighters, a shooting game with cute furry animals. But
don't let that put off the older gamers, this is a funny title with an
excellent deathmatch mode.

Jet Grind Radio is certainly the coolest choice, complete with original
gameplay, music and graphics. Roller blade your way around the streets
of Tokyo, leaving your graffiti mark on every building along the way.
This is a game like people have never played before.

Finally Quake 3 Arena is the perfect choice for the serious shooting
fan, and online deathmatch games can't be beat. Plus if your signing up
with Sega.Net for the first time, you get 50 free hours of game play,
ensuring you can get online this Christmas day.

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Jet Grind Radio

>>>> ADVENTURE / ROLE PLAYING GAMES:

Ecco The Dolphin - $39.99 - 1 Player
Grandia 2 - $49.99 - 1 Player
Shenmue - $49.99 - 1 Player
Skies Of Arcadia - $49.99 - 1 Player

These games really show off the Dreamcast's graphical powers, ranging
from the beautiful underwater scene in Ecco The Dolphin, to the
unbelievable realism of Shenmue.

Ecco The Dolphin makes his come back from the Sega Genesis days with a
new adventure, fighting for his future. Being a heavily puzzle based
game, and a mighty hard one at that, we certainly advise not getting
this for kids, or people with short attention spans.

Grandia II is classic Role Playing action with hot new graphics. The 3D
world comes to life with an excellent storyline and well defined
characters. Perfect for those who enjoyed other role playing games, or
those who have never tried the genre before.

Now Shenmue, which is really more of an masterpiece than a game. Mixing
elements of action, role playing, fighting, and then some (even racing
and retro!) this is a title almost every Dreamcast fan has been drooling
over for the past two years. Now it's here, the reviews have been great,
and it's an experience no gamer should live without.

Finally Skies Of Arcadia is a role playing game from Sega, and has been
compared to the likes of Panzer Dragoon Saga. Magic, Pirates, lots of
action and anime style characters come together for a trip across Sega's
sea of imagination. You couldn't go wrong buying this for the avid Role
Playing fan looking for something fresh to try.

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Shenmue

>>>> FIGHTING:

Capcom Vs SNK - $44.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Dead Or Alive 2 - $39.99 - 1 to 4 Players
Marvel Vs Capcom 2 - $44.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Power Stone 2 - $44.99 - 1 to 4 Players
Ultimate Fighting Championship - $49.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Virtual On: OT - $39.99 - 1 to 2 Players

With so many titles to choose from this could be a hard choice, but
luckily each of these fighters is quite different from each other.

For the 2D fans, you can battle with Capcom against either SNK, another
big company in the fighting genre, or those classic Marvel super heroes.
Capcom Vs SNK is probably the better choice for hardcore fighters as
they are more likely to know all the characters and appreciate the match
up of the Millennium.

Dead Or Alive 2 is 3D fighter with amazing graphics, and erm... lively
female characters. Fast arcade action is right here, although the down
side is there isn't much to keep gamers coming back for more.

Moving on to the true four player brawl that is Power Stone 2, this is
fighting madness. Four people battle it out across huge levels all at
once, and the characters will pick up guns, chairs, and anything else
around them that could be used as a weapon. A perfect game that everyone
can play at once, and the cartoon style characters tone down any
violence.

Ultimate Fighting Championship as you might imagine from the name is
for serious players. Mastering the moves, and earning your way to the
top with skill and practice is the aim of the game.

Finally Virtual On: OT pits two huge robots against each other in a
futuristic arena. Fans of arcade action will feel right at home with
this, and it's bound to put a smile on any robot fans face :)

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Power Stone 2

>>>> MISC:

Samba De Amigo - $39.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Seaman - $49.99 - 1 Player
Worms World Party - $44.99 - 1 to 4 Players + Online

Well... Samba De Amigo will have you shaking maracas with monkeys, while
Seaman will have you talking through a microphone to a fish with a human
head. Bizarre is certainly the word of the day here.

Seaman comes complete with the microphone, although you'll need to make
sure you have a memory card to save your virtual pet style fish. The
perfect choice for gamers looking for something new.

Samba De Amigo is a dance game with a difference. Using Maracas (sold
separately, and fairly expensive too!) or the control pad you have to
shake it through many levels of bright colourful action. While the
Maracas are expensive, the game just isn't the same without them. A
brilliant party game that will have everyone as Samba De Amigo addicts
in seconds.

Worms World Party is a much slower game, but no less bizarre. Taking
turns blowing each other up with weapons like explosive sheep or madcows
has always been great fun, and even more so now it's online.

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Worms World Party

>>>> PUZZLE:

Chu Chu Rocket - $19.99 - 1 to 4 Players + Online
Tetris: Online Edition - $39.99 - Online

Gamers who enjoy classics like Tetris will finally have something new to
play with this Christmas. Tetris Online will take the timeless block
building puzzle game to the next level.

Meanwhile Chu Chu Rocket is a much more lively game, with more action
happening on screen than your eyes can cope with. But like every good
puzzle it's easy to understand and hard to win at. Throw in the online
mode and gamers will never get tired of this one.

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Chu Chu Rocket

>>>> RACING:

Ferrari 355 Challenge - $49.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Test Drive LeMans - $29.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Test Drive V-Rally - $39.99 - 1 to 4 Players
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 - $49.99 - 1 Player
Wacky Races - $34.99 - 1 to 4 Players

From a Ferrari simulation, to a 24 hour LeMans race, to Rally driving,
to Xtreme racing in the streets of Tokyo to cartoon capers with Wacky
Racers you couldn't get a more different bunch of games.

First up on the starting line is Ferrari 355, a simulation which can
take weeks or months to master. Serious racing fans have never played
anything as real as this.

Then Test Drive LeMans lets you race the famous 24 hour course, or one
of several other tracks. But don't worry, you can save at any time, or
choose to squish those 24 hours into a much shorter time.

Test Drive V-Rally if perfect for Rally fans, packing over 80 courses
from around the world, plus a track editor to let their imagination go
wild. Creating a roller coaster of a track or a course even the pros
wouldn't be able to master is easy with V-Rally.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 puts you in the streets of Tokyo and challenges you
to race through traffic at insane speeds. Flash your headlights at
someone, and the race begins.

Then Wacky Racers is the choice for kids, or those who remember the days
of being a kid and watch the cartoon on TV. All the gang are back, and
including a four player split screen mode let the mayhem begin!

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: Test Drive LeMans

>>>> SPORTS:

NBA 2K1 - $49.99 - 1 to 4 Players + Online
NFL 2K1 - $49.99 - 1 to 4 Players + Online
Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 - $44.99 - 1 to 2 Players
Virtua Tennis - $39.99 - 1 to 4 Players

Choosing out of this collection could be as easy as what sport gamers
enjoy, or for fans of all sport in general, it could be almost
impossible to choose.

NBA 2K1 and NFK 2K1 both let you play Basketball or Football online
across America, although the NFL would win the toss up between these
two. NBA 2K1 suffers a little from slow down when playing across the
Internet, which is by no means a reason not to buy this game, but if
it's neck and neck between the two, NFL 2K1 would be on top.

Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is the sequel to the hit of last year, and
including a track builder and countless other improvements this is no
small step up. Fans of the original will have a very merry Christmas
indeed pulling off ollies with their new Dreamcast skater.

Finally Virtua Tennis, by far the easiest game of the lot to play.
Anyone can grab a controller and be taught in a second how to hit the
ball, but the skill comes in your game strategy and the depth of those
simple controls. Quite honestly this is one of the greatest Tennis games
in the history of the sport!

-- Dreamcast Weekly's Hot Pick: NFL 2K1

>>>> Pirates Given The Boot By Sega

Sega have recently made changes to the Dreamcast console in all corners
of the world, but what exactly was modified remained a mystery. The newer
versions of the Dreamcast no longer run the Utopia boot disc, a CD used
to run any game, imported or copied. Then along with the hardware,
certain software will be coded to reject running on import consoles
through the use of the boot disc or the Gameshark system.

>>>> Namco Post Losses

Times are tough for Namco, as shown by their loss of 3.5 billion yen in
this previous quarter, with total sales of 63.6 billion yen. As they
continue to open new arcades, despite the clear decline in the industry,
it's no surprise Namco would suffer.

They expect a turn of events and to post a profit this next quarter,
thanks to sales of new home software like Tekken Tag Tournament. But
where's the Dreamcast titles like Soul Calibur 2? Surely as the arcade
industry falls further, Namco should get themselves in a posision for
development on several consoles. This news of a loss might be just the
wake up call they need.

 (((  RED HOT RUMORS  )))                                     | Page 4 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each week here we'll keep you up to-date with the latest rumors going
around, but please remember these are only rumors.
>>>> Sonic Xtreme - Canned Saturn Title On Dreamcast
Sonic Xtreme, the game that was canned so Sega could give birth to Sonic
Adventure may yet see the light of day. Rumors from Sega Swirl who say
they've talked to someone in Sonic Team who revealed a "Sonic Jam 2" is
in development. Not only that, but it might contain Sonic Xtreme!
Sonic Jam was a compilation disc of all our favourite hedgehogs Genesis
adventures. Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles were included, along with a bonus
3D world containing piles of Sonic information, movies, artwork and
tunes. Now if a sequel was to hit the Dreamcast, apparently it will take
up two GD-ROMS. Sonic R won't be included, given that the game didn't
come from the minds of Sonic Team.
So what could take up that much space? Sonic CD and Sonic 3D Blast
(Saturn) would likely take up one of those discs. The other could
contain all the Genesis, Master System and maybe even Game Gear titles,
along with even more Sonic info for the hedgehog obsessed (like myself).
On the topic of Sonic Xtreme however, how they could include much of a
playable game is a bit of a mystery. Perhaps it was a mis-translation
and there will only be a movie of Sonic Xtreme included. We'll keep you
updated.
Now throw in Online Ranking and you'll have a collection no Sega gamer
should be without. What a way to celebrate Sonic's 10th birthday in June
next year. - Tails
Do you have any questions for our Sega know-it-all? Simply e-mail in
your questions to Ross at zondaro@usa.net and look for the answers in
the next issue of Dreamcast Weekly. The best questions will be answered
each week, although we're sorry we are unable to personally reply to all
the e-mails.
>>>> When Mothers Attack
Q) Hi, I accidentally tripped and pulled my son's Dreamcast off the
   table while a disc was in the machine. After retrieving the disk I
   found it had several scratches on it. After the fall the disk no
   longer works.  I bought a disk cleaner/repair kit which didn't seem
   to help. Do you have any suggestions? - Mother Gamer
A) No two CD's that are scratched will behave the same in my experience.
   Some scratches won't even skip while others will cause a game to
   refuse to boot. The only CD repair kit that I have ever heard good
   things about is the Game Doctor CD. If anyone has found a better
   repair method let me know and I'll pass along the message.
>>>> If this Dreamcast is a-Rockin Don't Come a-Knockin
Q) Hey, I was just wondering about my Dreamcast, regarding a shaking
   that happens. I rented D2 and saw it vibrating/shaking. Could this
   have been the game? I don't think any other games I own have done
   this. Thanks for your time Z. - Kyle
A) Washing machines are a good example of the shaking and bumping that
   happens when something is off balanced. I have heard that Hollywood
   Video puts stickers on the Dreamcast and Playstation CDs. The sticker
   on the disk causes it to spin out of balance hence the vibration that
   you get. The part of your Dreamcast that spins CDs could also be
   damaged. If you notice the problem get worse you might want to
   contact the support people at Sega.
>>>> Quake 3 Arena needs more Speed
Q) When will the Dreamcast Broadband adapter be available? - Jay
A) The Sega Broadband adaptor that was suppose to ship at the same time
   as Quake3Arena. Sega has said that it should hit stores January 2nd,
   2001 and will cost $59.99 US.
