Tonight are the 73rd Annual Academy Awards and if they had
a category for videogames (how long will it be before that
happens?) Yu Suzuki would be up there for Best Director.

Perhaps Stupid Invaders would win for Best Animation? Well
while it probably won't win an award like that, Stupid
Invaders certainly has some of the best animation seen in
a videogame. Plus one of the biggest sense of humours. Due
out at the end of this month, we give it the complete
preview treatment in our cover story this week.

Then following good news on Shenmue 2 and online Dreamcast
rentals, plus bad news on other games, we bring you the
Daytona USA Players Guide, now complete with all hidden
cars and Gameshark codes.

Finally our HTML design is almost complete, and we're now
adding some interactive parts :) So until next week, as
always, Happy Gaming!

<<.>> Stupid Invaders Preview
      -- Written by Graham Parker

Point. Click. Point. Click. Laugh your butt off. While many
point and click adventures have a limited appeal, Stupid
Invaders is set to change all that and literally flush the
genre down the toilet.

Five aliens need your help to make it through this strange
world alive, because quite simply they don't have the
intelligence to do it themselves. Well that and the fact
they'd probably never leave the room with the fart machine
in. Gorgeous, Stereo, Candy, Etno and Bud will solve the
puzzles that stand in their way of getting home through
your guidance with a cursor, and each will try and reach
their own personal goals along the way. Candy for example
is saving his pennies for a sex change.

As you can already tell Stupid Invaders has a much more
adult appeal than it's cartoon counterpart, Space Goofs.
So all the nudity, fart jokes, sexual confusion and more
fart jokes that didn't make it into the cartoon will be
more than made up for here. Sebastien Hamon and other
members of the Space Goofs team have turned their
creativity to this videogame, and treated it just like
producing a cartoon.

For starters there's two professional script writers, then
there's voice actors who have already worked on cartoons,
some including The Simpsons. So it's without question that
Stupid Invaders has animated cut scenes, and these
certainly look like being the highlights of the game.
Amazingly clean CGI really shows off the Dreamcast's video
capabilities, and coming from real cartoonists, naturally
all the music and sound effects are where they should be.

After completing each puzzle your rewarded with one of the
countless cut scenes, each were those five aliens are
pushed to the limits of stupidity. Luckily for them can
live through being blown up, eaten, shot, munched, crunched
and even run over by a lawn mower!

But the humour doesn't stop there, and every puzzle is
almost guaranteed to get a laugh out of you. (if you read
this far in the preview and didn't skip the rest in disgust
that is) From flatulence and snot blasting machines, to
teleporting toilets, pooping cows stuck half way through a
wall, and their own personal brand of military style toilet
paper, G.I Asswipe, it doesn't seem like we'll have to
worry about being board.

Each puzzle takes thought to complete, and will prove
there's still some things you've never seen or done before
in a videogame. Stupid Invaders is amazingly original, and
after solving enough puzzles you'll be firmly locked down
on the games wave length for at least a few days. So be
warned, keep the games CD's out of reach from your nine
year old little brother :)

Being a port from the PC game, there's always a few
questions that have to be asked in every preview, and on
the top of that list is graphics. Thankfully with Stupid
Invaders pre-rendered cartoon style, we don't have to worry
here. The hi-resolution images have made the translation to
the TV screen perfectly, and while the words "pre-rendered"
might put some gamers off, this system gives the designers
total freedom with their imagination. The game has a
constant style and look of quality that just shows how much
time and thought was put into the levels.

The controls of the game are handled with your normal
Dreamcast controller, and given the simpleness of a point
and click game that works fine. But if you do happen to
have the Dreamcast Mouse, that will work too.

So just remember even the smartest of people can't resist
pressing that big red shiny button in the middle of the
room, and two GD-Rom's worth of experimenting like that
should last awhile. After all how can you resit not
touching, poking and exploring absolutely everything? So
come the end of this month, forget your troubles in hours
worth of eye candy and laughter with the five aliens of
Stupid Invaders.

<<.>> New Shenmue 2 Details

We've all been amazed by the screen shots and graphics of
Shenmue 2, and it's clear the Dreamcast still has enough
power to compete with other consoles, but now it's time to
reveal more about the gameplay.

Two new on screen systems will help improve the control of
Shenmue 2, starting with the Icon Selector. Not unlike the
Zelda titles, four different buttons will appear on screen,
each corresponding to your Dreamcast controller. As you go
through the game, the buttons will be used for different
actions, from talking to fighting, brining out items, to
writing in your journal for example.

Then there's the Action Selector which comes into play when
you talk to people, and really changes the game. Rather
than watching the conversations go by like a cut scene,
you'll have the option of one of several questions to ask
each person. Naturally as the game progresses these
questions will change, but also what you select will have
an effect on the story. Quite how much of an effect this
will have remains to be seen, but it's certainly opened up
new possibilities.

Finally, and this will certainly appeal to those who spent
a lot of time searching through the levels of the original,
a map system is being built into Shenmue 2. No longer will
you have to refer to sign post maps scattered around the
walls, now you'll be able to purchase maps from a store,
and always have it shown up on screen. The transparent map
make take a little away from the realism, but again, for
all those that have gotten lost in the original (that
would be almost everyone) this comes as a welcome addition.

I wonder if Ryo still has that plaster on his face...

<<.>> Dreamcast Rentals Soar 212%

The online Dreamcast video game rental market grew at a
blistering 212% this past year, reports RedOctane
(www.redoctane.com), the leading online video game rental
service. "Revenues from Dreamcast video game rentals have
been extremely strong despite the recent announcement by
Sega that the company will cease production of the
Dreamcast video game console, " reports Kai Huang, CEO of
RedOctane. "With an estimated 4 million Dreamcast consoles
on the market and strong customer demand for Dreamcast
games, RedOctane is committed to increasing the number of
games it carries within the next few months."

"We have experienced an overwhelming demand for new
Dreamcast titles," explains Dean Ku, VP of Marketing at
RedOctane. "We'll be spending almost 10 times what we're
spending now to keep up with the explosive demand during
the next few months to make sure we can satisfy all of our
customer requests. And this means our customers will be
much more likely to find the games they want, and to be
able to rent them when they want."

"The enormous surge in the rental market can be attributed
to a number of factors," explains Kai Huang, CEO of
RedOctane. "The Dreamcast has more great games than any
other console and a very large and dedicated following.
With Sega's decision to discontinue manufacturing the
Dreamcast, many people who previously would have purchased
the games are now considering renting as an option.
RedOctane is one of the few places to rent Dreamcast video
games, so it is not surprising to see this increase in
rentals." A Dreamcast rental at RedOctane starts at only
$3.95 for a 10day rental. Customers can also choose to join
the RedOctane G3 Unlimited Rental Program.

<<.>> More Titles Tossed into the Can

This week Metro3D announced they have decided to halt all
Dreamcast projects, including both Armada 2 and Dark Angel.
Also Ripcord Games have followed suit and gone the same
way, stating they have stopped all Dreamcast development
on their three titles, Legend of the Blade Masters, Gorka
Morka, and Shrapnel: Urban Warfare 2025.

Finally while we're on the topic of bad news, Fox
Interactive has been rumored to be the next on fall, and
Alien Resurrection along with Worlds Scariest Police
Chases have already been canned. While that's no great
loss, losing Planet of the Apes and Buffy The Vampire
Slayer would be. Both titles have been confirmed to still
be in development from Fox, but awaiting further approval
from the publishers.

An announcement of NiGHTS 2 would be good right about now.

<<.>> Daytona USA 2001 Players Guide
     -- Written by Graham Parker

Despite the terrible dance remix of Blue Blue Skies that
sends shivers down our collective spines, Daytona USA 2001
is THE Daytona. Now we bring you a guide with details on
each secret car, plus power sliding and rocket start tips
for those new to the game.

-- Secret Car #1: Pywackett Barchetta

To race in this wacky three wheeled car (complete with an
equally wacky driver), just finish any course with each
original car. For example complete Circuit Pixie with the
Hornet, then the Grasshopper, next the Falcon, then finally
the Lightning.

     Grip: ||||||||   - 85
    Accel: ||||||||   - 80
Top Speed: ||||       - 40

-- Secret Car #2: Pywackett Barchetta Super

To get this improved grip car, simply select the Pywackett
Barchetta and a track like 777 Speedway or Circuit Pixie,
reduce the laps to 2, and when the race begins, turn right
around and complete it in reverse. If you finish the race
(naturally you'll be in last place) you'll unlock this
next car.

     Grip: |||||||||| - 100
    Accel: ||||||     - 60
Top Speed: ||||       - 45

-- Secret Car #3: Unicorn

Your reward for making it through all four stages of the
Daytona championship is the third secret car, the Unicorn.
Your total points and difficulty level have no effect on
unlocking the car, you just have to come first in the final
championship stage, King Of Daytona.

     Grip: |||        - 35
    Accel: |||||||||  - 90
Top Speed: |||||||||  - 90

-- Secret Car #4: Rule of The 9th

In the single player mode you must set 1st place time
records on each track, with each variation (normal, mirror,
reverse, and mirror reverse). The laps must be set on their
fixation, but the difficulty level has no effect.

     Grip: |||||      - 50
    Accel: ||||||||   - 85
Top Speed: ||||||||   - 85

-- Secret Car #5: Red Cat

Online racing only - you must win one online race.

     Grip:            - ??
    Accel:            - ??
Top Speed:            - ??

-- Secret Car #6: The Javelin

Most likely the final hidden car (aside from maybe the
horse?), this is pure speed packed with zero turning
ability. Ever wanted to race at over 400 kmp/h? :> To
unlock the car you must clock up over 100 hours of game
time.

     Grip: ||         - 20
    Accel: |||||||||| - 100
Top Speed: |||||||||| - 100

-- TIP #1: Become A Power Sliding Pro

The secret to this games fun and success is your ability to
power slide around corners, and without this technique,
it's just not Daytona.

One method which you've no doubt discovered yourself is to
turn sharply while braking, then accelerating and hoping
you make it out of the slide in one piece.

But the better method is to first select a manual car, then
when you reach a tough corner, drop the gears down twice,
and let off the accelerator. Then to straighten back up,
put the gears up again, and accelerate. Once you get the
hang of this, you'll have taken a huge step forward to
victory.

-- TIP #2: Rocket Start

This little trick has always been a big part of Daytona,
and allows you to start off a race at top speed. While the
countdown is running before your race, hold down your
brakes and keep the revs in the yellow bar. Then when you
hear the words, "GO!", release the brake when you hit
around 70 kmp/h and push the accelerator to the max.

-- TIP #3: Slip Streaming

If your in need of a little extra speed boost, and there's
no one behind to give you a "rear bumper", the best idea is
to drive directly behind another car. This is called
slip streaming, and in reality your car can go faster
because the vehicle ahead is pushing the air resistance to
either side for you. The same trick works in Daytona.

Do you have a question for your Sega know-it-all? Simply
e-mail in your questions to Ross at zondaro@usa.net and
look for the answers soon in an issue of Sega World Weekly.
We are unable to personally reply to all emails.

<<.>> Aliens Have Abducted Our Q&A Guy!

Tails - Oh no! Aliens have abducted Ross, our Question and
Answer guy! Or was it that I went nuts with him because
he's starting Gamecube Weekly? No... I honestly fully
support his magazine and was just interviewed this past
week for the first issue.

But that means he was taken within the past few days, and
we're now begging if any of those aliens read Sega World
Weekly, please return him as soon as possible. He's the
only one that can deal with all the Dragonball Z questions
without going crazy. You can take Mike, our Red Hot Rumors
guy instead (kidding Mike!).

Seriously though, no doubt Ross is very busy (you won't
believe the E3 coverage he's setting up for us), but look
out next week for the return of Ross and his Q&A.

Or maybe Ross was disintegrated because he supports two
consoles at once, unfortunately seeming like a scientific
impossibility in this industry... Ok maybe I drunk a little
too much Pepsi before writing this... hmmmm... I'll stop
now. Keep those questions coming to zondaro@usa.net
