Over the past few days news, screen shots, videos, and
impressions have poured onto the internet direct from the
E3 show.
For some of is it's been our first year looking at content
on other platforms, and in particular for Sega gamers, this
year is a huge change from last.
Still in this special E3 issue we've covered every single
game Sega had to show, from almost 20 titles on the
Dreamcast, to 20 games spread across the other platforms.
Each page is for a different system, starting with the
Dreamcast, and all are presented in an easy to read format,
making Sega's E3 showing easy to keep track of.
Finally it wouldn't be right not to plug the forum, and
again this week it's certainly deserved it! Over 800 posts,
which is almost twice what it was last week!! You just have
to see how things are going...
http://www.segaworldweekly.com/forum/
Until next week then, when we'll have a special download
for everyone, Happy Gaming!

HOT QUOTE from the E3 issue: "Riding warthogs and kicking

cursing totem poles? All in a days work for the players of

<<.>> Sega Dreamcast Roundup
-- Phantasy Star Online V2
This upgraded version of Phantasy Star Online was playable
inside Sega's booth, with a level 200 character, and a big
level 87 mag. The game includes two extra levels, new
monsters which were very impressive, and of course the
Ultimate Mode. It was cool, but only buy if you are a PSO
Fanatic, or want to be one.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Lobby soccer!
Lows: More of the same, but then that's what the fans want.
-- Shenmue 2
Shown only in video form was a bit disappointing to the
gamers eager to get their hands on Ryo again, but this one
had people lining up outside just to catch a glimpse of it.
The programming of Shenmue 2 has just been finished in
Japan, and only the testing and de-bugging stages remain.
It sounds like a lot of gameplay enhancements have been
made, and you can expect more action and faster QTEs from
this next adventure.
The video at the E3 still had all the Japanese voices in
it however, meaning all of the English voice-overs have yet
to be done, but Sega are confident it will ship before
Christmas.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: Jaw dropping graphics, and chicks for that matter!
Lows: It may be the last chapter Shenmue on the Dreamcast.
-- Bass Fishing 2
Four years after the original was produced, Sega Bash
Fishing is back. This time it's packed with more lures,
more fish, and more lakes! But most importantly look for
some multiplayer fishing action! Yuppers. Bass!
Anticipation Rating: 6/10
Highs: Multiplayer gaming (although not online)
Lows: You can't eat these fish for dinner!
-- Crazy Taxi 2
This time around your in the city of cabs, the big apple,
New York, and believe me, San Francisco has nothing on
these guys! The citizens of NY play faster and harder then
ever before. While sadly there's no four player split
screen mode as previously thought, a pyramid of brand new
mini games and some extra features should make this one
sequel worth the ride.
One of the biggest new additions is the Crazy-Hop, allowing
you to literally pull off every NY driver's dream, and hop
right over the traffic jumps. This jump feature was hard to
get used to at first, but it does seem like it will add
more to the gameplay. Also you can now pick up multiple
fares at the same time. As for the music, I couldn't hear
the game too well with the craze of E3 outside, but Sega
have said they are once again packing in the cool music.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: Crazy Cabbies!
Lows: Crazy New York City Citizens!
-- Confidential Mission
It's time to lock and load those light guns again, but this
time in a spy setting. Confidential Mission is Sega's
latest shooter, unfortunately still with campy "House of
the Dead" style storylines, but for once with gameplay that
actually plays great with a controller!
The game moves a long very quickly, and even throws some
'events' at you like in their Jurassic Park: Lost World
shooter. No word on Sega's official lightgun support, but
the import stores and 3rd parties have you covered. This
one could be sleeper hit for the year!
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: You can play it with a Dreamcast Controller, and
actually play it well!
Lows: The fat little midget boss.
-- Alien Front
Tank action has never looked so good! Fast and furious,
with Alien Front you can play online and smack talk
everyone with the microphone! These aren't old black market
Russian Tanks you've driving either, these are bad boys
packing heat. Alien heat.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: It's better then 3DO's tank games.
Lows: Didn't get enough time with this game.
-- Ooga Booga
Visual Concepts may be the Sega Sports factory, but every
now and then they get to try their hand at some non-sport
games. Here on Ooga Booga you can pick from several tribes
and battle it out on a small island. This is Sega's Smash
Brothers. The 4 player split screen is chaotic, and the
gameplay is just plain weird!
Riding warthogs and kicking people into the ocean? Ok.
Collecting shrunken heads and cursing totem poles? All in a
days work for the players of Ooga Booga. Plus we look
forward to kicking Graham's butt online! (We shall see
about that Zondaro, no one can ride a warthog like a New
Zealand'er! - Tails)
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Warthog riding action!
Lows: What's with the fat guy?
-- Floigan Bros
Visual Concepts other non-sport title is a puzzle game
involving two brothers. One being tall and dumb, the other
short and skinny. You can only control the shorter of the
two, but what is cool is the AI for your brother (advanced
AI for a dumb guy anyway). He can get sad, happy or in many
cases angry. You've got to use his brawn and your brains to
save the family junkyard together. Floigan Bros is coming
in small instalments, each released separately. Expect Act
1 at a cheaper price fairly soon.
Anticipation Rating: 7/10
Highs: Running like crazy as your giant brother chases
you around the house Tom and Jerry style.
Lows: Only a little bit of game released at a time?
-- Outtrigger
Outtrigger is AM2's arcade style Quake, served up red hot.
No frame rate drops, even during the four player split
screen mode the lightning fast gameplay prevails. Online
play outside of Japan remains to be seen, but sounds
promising. If you like Golden-eye, but you felt Quake 3
Arena wasn't your style, you might want to get your hands
on this game.
Anticipation Rating: 7/10
Highs: Rocket Launcher good.
Lows: Getting shot in the back by lamers bad.
-- Bomberman Online
Having never played Bomberman before, my butt was easily
blown up, but this game was certainly very fast. Everyone
who knew Bomberman liked it, and the online play is said to
be pretty stable. Bomerman Online looks to be the ultimate
in videogame party entertainment!
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Fast gameplay, lots of levels.
Lows: People like Zondaro who suck at the game.
-- Virtua Tennis 2K2
Sega's serves up a second round of Virtua Tennis, and while
the graphics do look the same, albeit some better faces,
now you can stare at the... *cough* ... rear end of female
players for hours on end.
Although the online play might not make it, the game will
come with plenty of other enhancements. I didn't really
spend a lot of time with this game though, because there
were so many others calling out to me.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Female players!
Lows: Is Tennis just a cash in on Pong?
-- World Series Baseball 2K2
The first thing the Sega rep. told me was that they had
heard your complaints loud and clear. They will fix up
their Baseball franchise this year, starting with the
fielding. The title is also going online, where you can be
part of the world series through chat modes and head-to-
head play. Visual Concepts have clearly put lots of time
and detail into WSB 2K2, and it certainly looks like making
up for last year. Like all of the other Sega Sports games
this year, WSB 2K2 will track and record your wins and
losses online.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: The American Pastime.
Lows: Zondaro isn't much of a sports gamer.
-- NBA 2K2
This year Visual Concepts NBA team looks even better than
before, starting with improved online play, and the ability
to record your wins and losses on the net. Next up the AI
will be made smarter, including changes to team rotation,
rebounding and defence.
A new steal system will be programmed into the game, along
with the ability to select from plenty of new rules.
Finally all the rosters have been updated for the 2001/2
season, and a new court has been added, Oakland's Mosswood
Park.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: It's even better than watching the games on TV!
Lows: Hopefully they work on the lag problems online.
-- NFL 2K2
From the game that started it all, NFL 2K, to the online
revolution that NFL 2K1 started, Sega's football series is
ready for it's third and final year on the dream machine.
There's plenty of new features due to be added, along with
changes to the current game.
Starting with improved quarterback logic, and an enhanced
passing and catching system, the game will also include new
models and animations, eight player online battles, all new
commentary and more.
Sounds like Visual Concepts are ready for another season.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: It's NFL 2K2. Nuff said.
Lows: The final in the Dreamcast series.
-- NHL 2K2
Although this game was missed out last year, and while this
will be it's last run on the Dreamcast, Visual Concepts are
giving NHL 2K2 all they've got, not leaving the title again
to Black Box. Full online play for eight, yes eight players,
a brand new animation system, improved commentary, plus all
the updates you'd except like new rosters and more.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Visual Concepts are on the job this time.
Lows: It will be the last Hockey game to hit the Dreamcast.
-- NCAA 2K2
While the game wasn't playable at this years E3, Visual
Concepts ability to produce top sport titles can't be
doubted. College Football is taken straight online with
NCAA 2K2, with room for up to eight gamers at once.
More game modes include Dynasty mode, putting you in the
coaches seat, Single Bowl, Tournament Competition, and
Scrimmage Mode. Full rosters from the 2001 season are there,
and you can even go for the Heisman Trophy!
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: College Football on your Dreamcast, at last!
Lows: It will be the only College Football game on your
Dreamcast.
-- Propeller Arena
Online dog fighting from AM2! The controls of Propeller
Arena were really easy to pick up, and split screen gaming
was pretty smooth. I was told that they've got plans for
letting you talk to other gamers while playing in this,
using the Dreamcast's microphone. Overall it was a very fun
game, and one I'm certainly looking forward to buying!
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: Dog fighting action, online!
Lows: Listening to some 10 year old swear at you.
-- Sonic Adventure 2
As the blue streak speeds by, Sonic the Hedgehog celebrates
his 10th birthday with the second Dreamcast adventure. His
E3 showing didn't reveal too much extra stuff besides what
you've already seen in the demo, but the grinding on rails
is really cool. SA2 certainly feels a lot faster than the
original, and I can't recall seeing the frame rate drop at
all while speeding through the levels. Finally the versus
modes will really add a lot to the game.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Sonic proves he's still got the right stuff!
Lows: Will the annoying voices return?
-- Toejam & Earl III
We only got to see the long, long awaited return of the
funky duo on video, but what we did see, looked like
classic Toejam & Earl in 3D! The game is already running
great and looking very smooth, although we couldn't tell
where the gameplay was at. Including the familiar two
player split screen mode, it looks like some tag team
action will be going on too. The worlds of TJ&E looked
pretty expansive, and overall I can't wait to see more!
Anticipation Rating: 10/10
Highs: Looks brilliant! Classic TJ&E all the way!
Lows: Not playable :(

<<.>> Nintendo Gamecube Roundup
-- Monkey Ball
Remember Marble Madness on the Master System? Well it's
back, only this time the marbles out and the banana-hungry
monkey is in. Using just the analogue stick you must tilt
the ground below the monkey to help him collect all the
Dole (tm) banana's. Each level gets tricker than the last,
and here's hoping for some interesting puzzles.
Anticipation Rating: 6/10
Highs: It's got Monkeys in it!
Lows: Sega's unit had some pretty worn down GC controllers.
-- Phantasy Star Online V2
At this point in time it looks and plays exactly like the
upcoming Dreamcast version. In fact no one would have been
able to tell the difference. Sonic Team ported the whole
game really quickly, and they haven't had a chance to add
any new special effects as of yet. But what they have added
is an amazing four player split screen mode! We had the
chance to play this, and it was seriously cool! No
frame rate drops at all. Because they graphics haven't been
re-adjusted for smaller screens yet the stats were
impossible to read, but naturally this will be fixed.
Finally we battled a huge ice dragon that looked like the
boss from the first area on steroids.
Anticipation Rating: 10/10
Highs: Four player split screen mode!!!!!
Lows: More of the same, but then Nintendo fans have never
played this before.
-- Virtua Striker 3
Sega's classic Soccer series makes it's way to the
Gamecube, and also possibly the Dreamcast. Hot off the
arcades, the graphics are said to put every other soccer
title, including EA's FIFA to shame. As for the gameplay
however, comparing those two titles just wouldn't work, with
Virtua Striker 3 being very arcad-ish. This arcad-ish style
hasn't always done well at home, but we're hoping Sega will
add more to the game. It was impossible to tell with just
a video at the E3.
Anticipation Rating: 5/10
Highs: The graphics did look very nice indeed.
Lows: A simple arcade port only shown on video.
_________________________________________________________
/ \
-- E3: Microsoft X-Box Page 5 --
\_________________________________________________________/
<<.>> Microsoft X-Box Roundup
-- Crazy Taxi Next
Just announced at the E3, not shown.
-- Gun Valkrie
Plays like a mixture between Planet Harriers, Quake 3, and
maybe Burning Rangers. As a very fast first person shooter,
you'll be running up walls, doing flips and jumping over
bad guys in your very own robo-suit. The graphics on this
title were nothing short of amazing, with the only problem
being the Xbox controller.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: The mega fast gameplay, and brilliant graphics.
Lows: The controls, or the controller.
-- Jet Grind Radio Future
While on video only, Xbox's Jet Grind Radio Future looked
darker and far, far more detailed in style. To begin with
the draw distance just has to be seen to be believed, and
the levels are so complex! You have NEVER seen a videogame
city like this before, never.
The 'future' part of the name is really be reflected in the
game, now set in 2024, but again in Tokyo. We were told
developers want to go multiplayer with Jet Grind Radio
Future, both co-op and versus, which would be brilliant!
When we asked if JGR Future will be coming to other
systems, Sega's PR person sort of slipped up and said "JGRF
will be premiering on Xbox", then he then got a slight look
of "oops" in his face. So it sounds like the game isn't
exclusive to Xbox after all.
Anticipation Rating: 10/10
Highs: The huge draw distance and unbelievable complex
scenery.
Lows: It was on video only.
-- House of the Dead 3
WOW Entertainment are behind the third in this series of
Zombie shoot 'em ups. While the logo for the game was at
E3, sadly no screen shots or videos could be found. One
rumor about the game however suggests maybe a Shotgun will
be set as your main weapon, which could get interesting.
-- NBA 2K2
Hopefully the Xbox port will be the same as this years
Dreamcast version, although online play will not be
included until 2K3.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Sega brings there sport franchise's over to Xbox.
Lows: No online play till next year.
-- NFL 2K2
Again hopefully this will be the same as the Dreamcast
version, just without the online play until 2K3.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: No doubt the amazing graphics we'll see.
Lows: No online play till next year.
-- Panzer Dragoon
Fans of these series have been waiting a long time for it's
grand return, and unfortunately they will have to wait just a
little longer. The game wasn't at the E3 due to it's early
stage in development, but apparently it will be revealed
shortly. One tasty detail was let slip at the E3 however,
that Smilebit are behind this next title.
-- Sega GT 2002
A no show at this years E3, but like Panzer Dragoon, the
game should be revealed shortly.

/ \
-- E3: Sony Playstation 2 Page 6 --
\_________________________________________________________/
<<.>> Sony Playstation 2 Roundup
-- K-Project
K-Project is a music shooting game from the minds behind
Space Channel 5. Not having too much to show at the E3
though, we didn't get a chance to try out. The game did
look very promising though.
Anticipation Rating: 7/10
Highs: From the developers of Space Channel 5.
Lows: We didn't get to play it.
-- NBA 2K2
Sony gamers finally get a taste of Sega's sport line-up,
and Visual Concepts go head to head against EA. The
developers are hoping to include online play in this years
NBA title, although it's most likely that mode won't come
about until 2K3.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: Sega go up against EA.
Lows: I wouldn't hold my breath for online modes this year.
-- NFL 2K2
Sega shows EA and Playstation gamers how football games are
done, but just without the online play for this year.
Anticipation Rating: 8/10
Highs: It's Sega's NFL 2K2
Lows: No online play till next year.
-- Space Channel 5
Up down, up down, shoot, shoot, shoot. Sega's Space Channel
5 is coming to the Playstation 2, and will hopefully make
good use of the DVD format for extra space and video
quality. After all the backgrounds of Space Channel 5 are
all full motion video. It should be noted however this is a
port of the first game, not the upcoming sequel.
Anticipation Rating: 7/10
Highs: It's great fun, but under-appreciated on the Sega
Dreamcast.
Lows: Hopefully the controls are fixed.
-- Virtua Fighter 4
Only a video of the arcade version was shown here, which is
disappointing considering gamers in Japan recently got the
chance to play test the game. We were told however that the
PS2 version could end up looking better then the arcade
version, which would really be something to see.
Anticipation Rating: 9/10
Highs: The next title in Sega's flagship fighter series,
and it's based more on Virtua Fighter 2 this time.
Lows: Only on Playstation 2 for now, and Taka from VF3 has
officially been removed.

\_________________________________________________________/
<<.>> Gameboy Advance Roundup
-- Puyo Puyo
The Gameboy Advance's screen really shows off this puzzle
game well, but there's not much more to be said about it
really.
Anticipation Rating: 5/10
Highs: Multi-player.
Lows: It's not Baku Baku Animal :(
-- Columns Advanced
Sega's block dropping title hits the Gameboy Advance, and
naturally throws in a multi-player linkup mode. The game
also features some good graphics, and a very impressive
color scheme. Nice and bright to help keep this classic
fun.
Anticipation Rating: 6/10
Highs: Multi-player and bright colorfull graphics.
Lows: It's the still the same old formula.
-- Chu Chu Rocket
It's Chu Chu chaos on your Gameboy Advance! Just as chaotic
as the Dreamcast version, this Sonic Team title is a
perfect port from it's bigger 128-bit brother. While there
was no four player link play at the E3, that mode is
included in the game. Also the Gameboy's button layout can
take getting used to.
Antipiation Rating: 6/10
Highs: Just as fast and crazy as on the Dreamcast.
Lows: No link-up for those at the E3.
-- Sonic the Hedgehog Advance
On video only, doh! We really wanted to play Sonic's first
2D game in years, and is looked like he's back in style.
Sonic Advance is a brand new game, and includes some of
the gameplay features from Sonic Adventure 2, like the
ability to 'grind' on some surfaces. Sonic himself looked
really slick and well animated. I'll also go out on a limb
and say that it doesn't look like they are using the same
artwork from the Neo-Geo Pocket version, instead creating
it all brand new from scratch.
Anticipation Rating: 10/10
Highs: Sonic is back in 2D!
Lows: The rumored November release date.
