Namco Hometek Inc. Announces Dead to Rights™ for Xbox™[edit]

The highly anticipated Dead to Rights™ will make its debut in the summer of 2002

San Jose, CA March 14, 2002 - Namco Hometek Inc. has announced its second title scheduled for the Xbox™ video game system from Microsoft in the U.S. The highly anticipated Dead to Rights™ will make its debut in the summer of 2002.

Dead to Rights is Namco Hometek's in-house developed title inspired by Hong Kong action flicks and the best of classic film noir. This maximum velocity, supercharged action crime thriller introduces Namco's new action hero, Jack Slate: a once proud officer now a fugitive hunted by good cops, bad cops, bounty hunters and crooks alike. Without a gun, a car or a home and with pitifully few friends, Jack wages war with the criminal element that murdered his father, destroyed his life and continues to rain crime and heartbreak on Grant City.

To create a one-of-a-kind gaming experience, Namco has introduced many features that are common to Hollywood action blockbusters. "To create an experience with both the dramatic tension and super-charged action of Hollywood blockbuster films, a compelling hero is essential. Jack Slate is a man who can get the job done and look good doing it. With a unique and diverse set of intuitive game play mechanics inspired by the best moments in action film history, Dead to Rights surrounds the player with intense action and style", says producer Andre Emerson. This is clearly evident in the over-the-top game play. Jack is capable of diving, rolling, punching, kicking, and even viciously disarming foes. There are many unique game play scenarios, mini-games, logical play mechanics and slow-motion features that add to the variety of the immersing experience and fit within the context of the game's story. Best of all, the player is put in complete control of these actions.

Namco plans to take advantage of the advanced graphics technology on Xbox by using bump-mapping pixel shaders for game characters. Other unique features planned for Dead to Rights on Xbox include 16:9 anamorphic wide screen support and real-time directional Dolby Digital sound effects. Dead to Rights made a huge splash at last year's E3. Now it's ready to up the ante on what a true gaming experience can be.

Namco Hometek Inc. is the U.S. consumer division of Namco Limited, a Tokyo-based world leader in the high-tech entertainment industry. Committed to providing the ultimate entertainment experience, Namco uses cutting-edge technology and advanced electronics to take their theme parks, arcades, and home video games far beyond traditional entertainment.
