In a month of Samba De Amigo, Quake 3 Arena, NBA 2K1, Jet Grind Radio,
Silent Scope, 4x4 Evolution, and Test Drive LeMans you'd be forgiven
for not leaving your room during the next three weeks. But as Christmas
comes closer, it's only going to get better for Sega gamers, and
Dreamcast Weekly will be right here to bring you all the news, reviews,
cheats and more.
This month we round up the first half of the months releases, then
later this week in Dreamcast Weekly Extra, we preview the rest of the
titles, including most of those former mentioned hits.
Fancy a bit of videogame trivia? Page 3 brings a new section to
Dreamcast Weekly, titled "Did You Know?". With nine interesting (I hope)
facts, and if enough people e-mail in more little known gaming tidbits,
we'll make this a regular page.
Also the rumors burn red hot this week, with AOL DC, the release of
Sonic Adventure 2, and the next sporting title to go online. Speaking
of going online, if your VMU is just lying around somewhere, download
one of ten colored Chao's onto it from our "Sega On The Web" page.
Until next time then, remember The Game Is Never Over!

>>>> Games Of October 2000
- Written by Tails
It's October 2000, it's raining Dreamcast games, and it's times like
these you really have to think carefully about what to spend your cash
on. So Dreamcast Weekly presents another monthly round up of the titles
we look forward to, and those we aren't quite so excited about. Here are
the games of Games Of October 2000...
>>>> Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles - Tuesday 10th
/- $44.99
\- Players: 1
/- Genre: Action
Star Wars Episode 1 disappointed many, almost certainly because they
expected too much from the long awaited prequel. Now if only that was
the problem with the latest batch of Star Wars video games. Jedi Power
Battles hardly impressed on the Playstation, and hi-resolution graphics
aside, hopes weren't high for a much better Dreamcast game.
This adventure / beat 'em up takes you through ten levels straight out
the movie, and gives you the chance to use the force as Qbi-One Kenobi
and a selection of four other characters. Lucas Arts have stated they
will solve the problems of the Playstation version, but you'd still be
advised to wait until the reviews are back on this one. Don't trust the
force, but trust your favorite game site, at a time with so many sure-
fire hits coming to the Dreamcast, you want to pick your games carefully.
-- Anticipation 6/10
>>>> Test Drive V-Rally - Wednesday 11th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Racing
If you've seen the PAL reviews of V-Rally 2: Expert Edition, you'll know
this Infogrames title ranks right up there with Sega Rally 2. Now the
game finally hits the states and aside from a slight name change,
Americans have the chance to drive power slide around the world like the
rest of us.
With 86 tracks spanning 12 countries, there's no shortage of courses. But
if you do happen to get board of the true-to-life tracks, you can create
your own and save it to your VMU. The track editor is surprisingly good,
and takes up just 11 blocks of space on your VMU, which also includes a
ghost car too!
With 26 cars, four single player modes, the ability to play all those
with three mates by your side (yes the 4-player split screen racing Sega
Rally 2 was lacking is here), and then different weather and time-of-day
effects... Test Drive: V-Rally is no slouch in the gameplay department.
Once you get used to the slightly different controls, you won't find a
finer rally experience to date on the Dreamcast. If there was one
complaint about the game it would have to be the poor collision
detection, but that's nothing compared to the slow down in Sega Rally 2,
and may have been fixed for the American version.
-- Anticipation 9/10
>>>> Frogger 2 - Thursday 12th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Puzzle
The retro arcade game Frogger is back once again, but can he adapt to
the harsh world of 3D? Well the original 3D Frogger on the Playstation
was terrible, and something fans no doubt want to be forgotten. This time
however is seems Hasbro have got it right, and with the classic gameplay
and colorful 3D graphics, arcade veterans might finally get the update
they deserve.
Packing seven playable characters, multiple game modes, and a whole
collection of multiplayer challenges. Frogger 2 puts gameplay above
graphics, and that means if your a fan of the arcade original, or looking
for some classic puzzle action, Hasbro Interactive have the game for you.
-- Anticipation 7/10
>>>> Demolition Racer: No Exit - Tuesday 17th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1-2
/- Genre: Racing
Road Rage. The term certainly applies to Infogrames latest Dreamcast
title, Demolition Racer. Speed around one of the games twelve tracks
at 60 frames per second and slam into as many opponent cars as possible.
You get the idea.
The game was released last year on both PC and Playstation, but the
Dreamcast version is certainly at the top. Adding weather, new tracks,
new cars, and several extra power-ups to the mix, drivers with a little
anger to work out of their system at the end of the day wouldn't go
wrong picking this title up.
Providing there aren't any major bugs that come up in reviews,
Demolition Racer is a solid looking game you can look forward to this
month.
-- Anticipation 6.5/10
>>>> Sega Marine Fishing - Tuesday 17th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1
/- Genre: Fishing
Sega's sequel to Get Bass has arrived, and brings life back to your
Dreamcast fishing controller. So dust it off, pull up a chair, and cast
your rod into the South Pacific ocean. With three new fishing spots,
from deep sea to shallows, you'll find sixteen different fish waiting to
be caught and added to your collection.
While there's nothing to bring in gamers that didn't find enjoyment in
the arcade style fishing of the original, the sequel would be
recommended to anyone did. And after all, who wouldn't want to fish in
their arm chair?
-- Anticipation 8/10
>>>> Super Runabout San Francisco Edition - Tuesday 17th
/- $44.99
\- Players: 1
/- Genre: Driving
Still playing Crazy Taxi? I am. But for those who want to drive around
San Francisco some more, Climax's Super Runabout: San Francisco Edition
might be just what you need. Packing the same crazy driving style as
Sega's own arcade hit, and also being based in the same city you might
think it's almost too similar to be worth the $44.99. But not to worry.
Instead of being a cab driver, your giving missions ala Grand Theft
Auto or Driver. They range from serious jobs as a cop, to the totally
bizarre missions of running around the city delivering Hot Dogs! Expect
lots to do in this game, and plenty of different vehicles to drive in,
even a farm bike!
Super Runabout San Francisco Edition has the makings of an instant
classic, except for one major problem that arose from reviews of the
Japanese version... the poor control. Lets just hope Interplay (doing
the US conversion) fixes it, but you'd be advised to check out reviews
or give the game a test drive before buying. Because of that the
anticipation is knocked down a little, but we'll see how it turns out.
-- Anticipation 7/10
>>>> Worms Pinball - Tuesday 17th
/- $29.99
\- Players: 1-4
/- Genre: Pinball
The Dreamcast will no doubt see some of the most realistic pinball
titles in it's life time, and this... is not one of them. Using Team
17's totally over-the-top humor of the Worms series, they hope to
revolutionize the game of pinball.
With two highly detailed tables, and of the classic pinball features
such as multiple balls, there's already enough to match some previous
efforts. But Team 17 have thrown in missions, mini-games, and brand
new dangers that will give an extra boost of excitement into your
game. If there was even a time to give pinball a go, at $29.99 this
is it.
-- Anticipation 8.5/10
>>>> Samba De Amigo - Tuesday 17th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1-2
/- Genre: Dance
Shake it with Sonic Team! If you thought Dance Dance Revolution or Space
Channel 5 proved you have rhythm, wait until you've danced with a
monkey! Yes Samba De Amigo is a little different with it's animal antics
and cartoonish style, but don't let that put you off... that's what
Sonic Team do best. Bright colors, fast action, and above all
originality. And since you'll be shelling out around $100 for the game
and maracas, you'd except a game like no other.
The idea being to old a maraca in each hand, and shake them either high,
low, or in between as the characters on screen tell you. You'll also be
asked to hold certain poses on occasion, and this makes Samba De Amigo
just about as entertaining to watch as to play. Everyone will want to
shake their thang, and with the wide selection of game modes and great
songs, Sonic Team won't disappoint.
-- Anticipation 9.5/10
>>>> Urban Chaos - Wednesday 18th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1
/- Genre: Action
If Fighting Force 2 or Dynamite Cop didn't live up your expectations,
well quite honestly I don't blame you. But Eidos are taking another shot
at the genre with Urban Chaos, and this looks promising.
Taking the role of a cop, Darci, your given several missions from the
police center. But this is where Urban Chaos fixes the problems of the
former mentioned titles. Offering sub-quests where you can choose to
help other officers in trouble, and adding a much needed dose of variety
in the form of driving the squad car.
Action junkies will feel right at home here, and put in the skill
required to finish the game. If you were put off by previous similar
titles, still give this one a go. You may just be surprised how much the
chaos was missing in your life. A very respectable 7 for anticipation.
-- Anticipation 7/10
>>>> MTV Sports: Skateboarding - Thursday 19th
/- $39.99
\- Players: 1-2
/- Genre: Sport
Even if you've never played it almost every gamer knows Tony Hawk
Skateboarding is one seriously hot game. Taking the sport to a level
in videogaming never before seen, it was only a matter of time before
someone else tried to clone the award winning mix. MTV Sports:
Skateboarding is much more than a simple clone however.
With more than 30 real-life skaters, including the famous Andy Macdonald
as the star attraction. Then the number of levels is even higher, coming
in at 35. Add a soundtrack featuring several bands, including Deftones,
pack in a four player mode, and most importantly CPU skaters in the
single player game, and you have a challenge Tony Hawk might feel a
little daunting. Good stuff!
-- Anticipation 8/10
>>>> Quake 3 Arena - Thursday 19th
/- $49.99
\- Players: 1-4 and Online
/- Genre: Shooting
The game that needs no introduction, and the title which finally pits
PC gamers against console owners at long last. Including fourteen maps
from the computer version (that look almost as good on your $149
Dreamcast as on an expensive PC), several new exclusive levels, and
most importantly smooth multi player gaming online and off line.
Dreamcast gamers across America will fight in a 24-hour 7-day a week
frag fest blood bath like never before, and if your really serious
about your Quake, you can shell out the extra money for a mouse plus
keyboard, and even a broadband adapter for a ping of just 35. Now
that's fast gaming! Make no mistake, Sega means business with this
title, and Quake 3 is going to be a hit. It's time to teach those PC
users a thing or two about console gamers.
-- Anticipation 10/10
>>>> To Be Featured Tomorrow:
-- Spawn - Thursday 19th
-- Ready 2 Rumble Boxing 2 - Tuesday 24th
-- Silent Scope - Tuesday 24th
-- Star Trek New Worlds - Tuesday 24th
-- 4x4 Evolution - Monday 30th
-- KISS Psycho Circus: The Nightmare Child - Monday 30th
-- Messiah - Monday 30th
-- NBA 2K1 - Tuesday 31st
-- Jet Grind Radio - Tuesday 31st
-- Test Drive LeMans - Tuesday 31st
-- Rouge Spear - Tuesday 31st

((( DID YOU KNOW? ))) | Page 3 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Do you know something about Sega or videogames that might interest the
world? Well e-mail it in on Madcow@ihug.co.nz and this could become a
regular feature! The following nine are facts you might not already know
from us at Dreamcast Weekly...
>>>> Did you know...
1) The Seaman microphone can be used on your PC, and in most cases
just requires a small extension cord that can be purchased at your
local electronics store.
2) Using the PlanetWeb browser 2.0, you can speed up your Dreamcast
modem by entering the "Modem Int." settings and replacing "AT&F"
with "ATs28=56".
3) Peanuts are one of the ingredients of dynamite. (ok that's not a
game fact but it's true, heh)
4) Dreamcast Weekly is actually translated into Portuguese.
5) Toejam & Earl have a website at http://www.tjande.com/
6) In the first level of Sonic Adventure, there's two suns in the sky?
7) Dreamcast emulators to play Gameboy Color and Super Nintendo titles
are being developed by people on their own, along with a Dreamcast
VideoCD player, and perhaps more software in the future.
8) While trying to think up a name for Sega's 128-bit console, Naka-San
from Sonic Team suggested the "Sega Game-Cube". Now that might have
made things interesting for Nintendo.
9) Before the Playstation, Sony developed some games for the Genesis
and other consoles, but they also published several soundtracks for
Sega such as the Sonic Soundtracks.
((( RED HOT RUMORS ))) | Page 4 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each week here we'll keep you up to-date with the latest rumors going
around, but please remember these are only rumors.
>>>> Worldwide Hedgehog Fever
As development of Sonic Adventure 2 speeds along, with new screens
being released over the past two weeks, it's only natural to wonder
when this sequel is due out. Well the rumors suggest that despite the
failure of a worldwide Phantasy Star Online release, Sonic Team have
big plans for the next adventure of Sonic and friends. Due out sometime
in 2001, a worldwide release as done with previous games such as Sonic
& Knuckles certainly looks possible. Then given that the developers are
based in America, we find it hard to dismiss these are just "rumors".
By: Graham Parker
>>>> Don't Call Me A Foot Fairy!
Recently there have been a few rumors about a new soccer title, online.
This title doesn't have a name or any other details as of yet, but
given the huge success NFL 2K1 has brought to America, except details
to be released shortly. By: Michael Monahan
>>>> You've Got Mail
About 2 months ago there have been reports of a new AOL version called
AOLDC. AOL is short for America Online. The AOLDC title is going to be
in the Sega GD-Rom format so you can use your AOL account on your DC.
The title should load your password and member name on your DC's 1
gigabyte storage space. It should be exactly like the real AOL for your
PC, but DC style. Although it is not known we here expect AOL DC to
include the long waited instant messaging. AOL DC should be using the
6 megabytes of local memory on the DC, to help keep it running nicely.
There is no release date yet for this, but when it comes turn back to
DCweekly for all of your DC needs. By: Michael Monahan
