~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Want to write for Dreamcast Weekly? We're looking for some poor soul to
run the Q&A page (hmmm... probably shouldn't have put it quite like
that). No it's seriously great writing experience, and you'll learn more
about videogames than you ever thought possible. For full details on how
to apply, please check out our "Sega On The Web" page near the end of
this issue. Thanks.
Due to a few computer problems (no really I just got Quake 3 and am
slacking off for the next few days - I wish!) replying to e-mails is a
little slow at the moment, but I'm sorry for the delays, and I will get
replies sent off very soon. Hence the slightly smaller issue this week
too.
Speaking of Quake 3, the game is finally out in the states! If the
online world didn't suck you in with Chu Chu Rocket and NFL 2K1, there's
certainly no escaping the craze of fragging friends across America with
this game. Which makes it the perfect time to round up some of the
Dreamcast clans, for the more serious of gamers out there.
We take a look at over ten of the Sega clans on the net today, and to
compare, one of the PC clans. Find out what to look for when joining up,
details on the highs and lows of each group, and links to each of the
websites.
Then in the red hot rumors, dare I say it, we have a Dragonball Z rumor.
Don't get us wrong, we think it's just as stupid no one has brought the
game into the next generation as you, but until an official announcement
makes the headlines, don't get your hopes too high.
Well until next time then, remember the game isn't over until the fat
lady's been slaughtered with your BFG10K!
>>>> Online Gaming: Battle Of The Sega Clans
- Written by Tails
First with Chu Chu Rocket, then NFL 2K1, and now Quake 3 Arena, your
Dreamcasts modem has perhaps become the most important part of the
game playing experience. But with all the problems of opponents
quitting the game when they're losing, having a good online match is
still best achieved playing mates you know, as opposed to someone on
the other side of America.
If only you could play against a group of people that can be trusted not
to quit mid way though your kicking of their butts, a group that takes
online gaming seriously. Presenting the low-down on Dreamcast Clans,
for gamers who want to take their online battles to the next level.
Included is brief details on the clan, first impressions, and naturally
links for you to check out their websites.
-- Coca Cola Cowboys:
Join the caffeine addicts of Coca Cola Cowboys, a clan with 17 members,
each with their own page of details and photo. But looking into the
site, you might be a little confused as how to join (no information),
and how they talk to each other besides the IRC chat room. Using a
mailing list over the usual forum, this clan is a little different, but
could be just what your looking for. If your a Coca Cola Cowboy at
heart, and want a clan that stresses having fun over everything else,
check out their site today. Website: http://www.cocacolacowboys.com/
-- Dark Legacy:
Still deep in construction, this clan isn't really up and running yet,
but with almost daily updates work is coming along fast. Could be a
good place to get in at the start. Website: www.darklegacy2000.cjb.net
-- DCX:
A clan with just 10 members, despite it's impressive website, and huge
member pages. Each member's details are covered in an unrivaled depth,
and scores along with graphics and stats are easily accessed. So what's
wrong? Well they don't have any matches nor practices planned, and
don't seem to have played much in the past. Perhaps a little too much
time spent on the website, and not enough on the actual playing. With
their own radio and such, it's a good place to bookmark, but for actual
gaming you'd be advised to look at the sites where the action is still
hot. Website: http://gforce-tech.hypermart.net/dcx-clan/
-- EchosideDC2000:
A fairly small clan, with less members and scores than the average clan
out there. Although it looks like they are open to using Sega GT and
Sega Swirl as online games, a welcome change from the usual three.
They even have an interactive story, and overall these original
features are great, but the clan is still a long way from the big boys
of the online world. Website: http://www.geocities.com/echosidedc2000/
-- Fantomu Bushi:
Supporting games with the World Ranking function such as Sega Rally 2,
Star Wars Episode 1 Racer, and Sonic Adventure, this clan is lacking
the more popular online games, and their Chu Chu Rocket page came up
not found. It would be great if they could get organized and get their
rankings online and such, as they do have a good list of members
covering a wide range of genres, although to make this clan a real
competitor it might take more than one update a month.
Website: http://fade.to/fantomu
-- Gamerz:
A well designed website welcomes you, despite much of it still under
construction. They update around once a month, and a Quake 3 Arena
section is coming soon. Overall a clan with good forums, and a huge
links page which came in very useful for writing this feature, but
as mentioned before, still under construction.
Website: http://www.dcgamerz.net
-- New Revolution:
Although their Chu Chu Rocket tournament went well, they have yet to
get NFL 2K1 and Quake 3 Arena up and running. A pity, although with
almost daily updates appearing at the moment, and requests for those
who want to be in the Quake 3 matches, this could still be a site well
worth the visit. Website: http://www.geocities.com/nrclan2000
-- Silent Assassins:
With VMU mini-games and save files, cheats, reviews, this website is
clearly aiming high. Even though they are missing the member profiles,
they have a good forum and chat room, and it's easy to sign up. Chances
to join their Quake 3 Ladder are currently open.
Website: http://www.sateam.20m.com/
-- The Sega Gods:
Meeting each Friday and Saturday, and with a powerful 62 members, The
Sega Gods mean business. While they only support two games, this is one
of the only clans already up and running with the frag festival of Quake
3 Arena. This is a clan that puts gaming first.
Website: http://www.geocities.com/segagods
-- The Untouchables:
With mini-sites for each of the Dreamcast's 3 online games, clear rules
explaining how they play the games, and an easy to use sign-up page,
this clan originally seemed brilliant. Although when I saw it's missing
some of the basic features such as a chat room, and details on it's
members, it seems they aren't the most professional out there after all.
Website: http://www.geocities.com/lennon7_13/
-- Wizards:
A nice ranking system, with icon awards, although that's about all.
Their chat room is closed, and the message board contains all of four
posts. Website: http://www.wizards.freewebsites.com/
-- Fallen Angles (PC):
When you enter the cathedral of the Fallen Angels, your instantly
greeted by one of the best website designs out there. Regular updates,
clear rules, and even practice times listed on the front page puts this
clan on the top of the board. They even have their own font, lol! With
ICQ icons next to each name, calenders of events, and more, this is the
standard Dreamcast clans should aspire to reach. If your looking for
a PC clan, look no further... Website: http://www.fallen-angels.net/
OVERALL:
As Dreamcast online gaming just gets started, so does the clans. But
from what I've seen over the past few days, it seems most important to
take your time in choosing a clan to join. I'd personally recommend
those which put gaming above the flash websites, and those who are
already open to Quake 3. Those are the clans that have it sorted. But
you'll also want to see what their personality is like, easily found
by a quick visit to the forum and by reading the members details.
It might take a little time to get yourself into the clan scene, but
like I mentioned before, it should add a whole new level to the online
game.
((( RED HOT RUMORS ))) | Page 3 |
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each week here we'll keep you up to-date with the latest rumors going
around, but please remember these are only rumors.
>>>> Dragaonball Z On Your DC!
How would you like to play Dragonball Z on your Dreamcast? (well judging
by the number of e-mails we get asking for this title, I'm bet you
would - Tails) Fighting against the bad guys from the hit cartoon show
with super powers.
Dragonball Z, one of the most famous Japanese Anime around has been
rumored to be coming to Dreamcast for a long time now. If you don't know
what the show is about I'll give you tell you the main idea. This show is
about supernatural people and aliens that have to find and hide these
magic objects called Dragonballs. During this, different races of aliens
and people fight each other to the death in the hope of getting these
Dragonballs. That's mainly what it's about, if you want more info you
will have no problem finding it on a major search engine. Now back to the
game.
This game will likely be based on a fighting system not unlike Street
Fighter. So that means that the game will just be head to head battling
with your opponent. 2D characters in a 3D world might make a really cool
effect, and you can compare it to Jet Grind Radio. Now let the seizures
role in, with all of that Japanese anime and blinking, and we're ready
to fight. Dreamcast Weekly will keep you updated if anything more comes
out of this rumor. By: Michael Monahan
Please Note: The above is just a rumor, and please don't e-mail in with
questions asking about a Dragonball Z game. Packed with the success of
the TV show, and the return of these rumors, something may be announced
in the near future, but believe me, as soon as we know, you'll know :)
Thanks.

>>>> Write For Dreamcast Weekly! - Question & Answer
You can be part of the Dreamcast Weekly team, as an all knowing Sega
guy who runs the Q&A. It's great experience to put down on your CV, and
naturally if you have a website, there's some free promotion in it for
you. But... this is a job seriously only for the hardcore gamer. You
must have an addiction to reading the Sega news from at least two
websites every day, and not just the news that interests you... but all
the items. Plus you should keep up with previews, and what's on peoples
mind through more than one message board across the Internet. This way
you should be able to handle anything the readers throw at you. Further
requirements include good writing skills, and the ability to work on a
deadline.
You'll have to send in the Q&A each week before Sunday, and while we
don't certainly expect you to reply personally to e-mails (too many!),
the idea is to pick out the most interesting questions and answer them
in Dreamcast Weekly.
If your interested, please send me an e-mail on Madcow@ihug.co.nz
including some amazing gaming facts I wouldn't already know, plenty of
sucking up, and bribes are always welcome. No ok, just send in your
details, write a little about yourself, and if you've had any writing
experience on the net before, that would help. Thanks for your time!
