STOP PRESS: We'd just like to help put an end to the rumors of Sega
going multiplatform this week. Aside from games on Cellphones and such,
don't take this rumor with a grain a salt.
The launch of a new console always puts an interesting spin on the
industry, and the Playstation 2 is no different. Depending on where you
read it, every American is either disappointed in Sony and it's
"revolutionary" console, or all but half a million Americans are
disappointed in Sony and the fact they didn't have enough of their
consoles to go around.
Never the less it's a great excuse to do some console bashing, and Daily
Radar have taken that excuse quite literally. If you thought IGN's movie
of Dreamcast Vs Playstation 2 was funny, you have to see this!
http://www.dailyradar.com/features/directhit_feature_page_1715_1.html
Then in this weeks cover feature we take a more scientific look on the
console wars, in the Foolproof Prediction of Videogame Future. Another
must see!
Thanks to everyone who applied for the Q&A job at DC Weekly, and we're
currently in the process of reading them all through. This weeks Sega
On The Web page brings details on a Sonic fansite looking for some
help with graphics. If you like that side of work over writing, this
could be for you!
Until next time then, Happy Gaming, don't forget to check out the
cheats page for Quake 3 Arena and Rush 2049, and finally... The Game Is
Never Over!

>>>> Foolproof Prediction of Videogame Future
- Written by Crimson
Recently at work we were in a lull, so we decided to use our powers of
prognostication to determine the ultimate victors in the coming console
system cataclysm. Other soothsayers and sages have different methods,
tossing bones, looking at swirling sands, etc. We decided on a more
appropriate one.
The key elements:
-----------------
1 Nintendo 64 system box (empty)
1 Oversize display NFL 2K1 box (empty)
1 MS Windows Millennium Promo Upgrade box (empty)
1 Fantavision DVD PS2 case (empty)
1 The World is Not Enough N64 Box (with a hook for hanging items inside)
The setup:
----------
The nintendo box was upright on the bottom. On top on one side was the
NFL2K1 box leaning over precariously. On the other side receiving the
same treatment was the Windows ME box. Balanced on top of these two was
the empty Fantavision case. All of these were on a raised table. The
TWINE (The World is Not Enough) box was in my hands.
The event:
----------
After some careful breathing exercises to achieve a complete of mind and
body I prepared to throw the TWINE box at the picture of Ken Griffey
Jr.'s Slugfest on the back of the N64 box. Then the throw, perfect, and
the results amazing...
The results:
------------
When the EA box hit the nintendo the N64 box shook back and forth,
teetering on the edge of collapse. On top the three boxes, MS Windows,
NFL2K1, Fantavision, lost all hold and began to fall. The EA box was
denied, quickly falling to the floor, broken and rejected. The Windows
ME box and the Fantavision box both tumbled to the floor like the dead
weight they were. The NFL2K1 box fell but landed safely on the table
next to the N64 box.
The prediction:
---------------
Clearly when the hired gun EA tries to put its games on the future
Nintendo Gamecube they will not achieve the success they anticipate.
This will be caused by their over committment to Sony that will limit
their profitability and lead to their fall of power. This too will be
the result of the overconfident Sony who quickly fell. The weight of
too much software like Fantavision will bring them down when compared to
the software of others. MS will also feel the sting of videogame failure
as their system will be unsuccessful in capturing the casual gamers that
currently drive the market. Nintendo will have a surprisingly successful
entry into the market and will continue to sell large numbers of
software. Sega, our favorite, will be shaken, but eventually draw close
to Nintendo to lead the market.
(Heh, well there you have it people. The future of videogaming and the
console wars has been revealed. - Tails)

>>>> Sega Confirms Next Console
Chris Gilbert, Vice President of sales at Sega Of America has confirmed
Sega is indeed working on a new console, helping to put those rumors of
them leaving the hardware business to rest. While he refused to give
any more details, he did say Sega are in the "preliminary stages" of
designing their next console.
As the Dreamcast is just getting going itself, I wouldn't expect any
further announcements or juicy tidbits for awhile to come... but it's
nice to know another machine is coming.
>>>> Three Racing Games Canned For Australia and New Zealand?
After the online functions of the Dreamcast were given the boot before
they even had a chance in New Zealand, I was wondering how games like
Speed Devils Online would work. Alas, the news is not good for those
who live down under in Australia and New Zealand.
Firstly Ubisoft have cancelled the release of Speed Devils Online and
POD: Speedzone, another online racer. This is a huge blow to gamers,
and makes us wonder if Sega published titles like Daytona Online, Quake
3 Arena, and Phantasy Star Online will see the light of day here.
But the bad news isn't over yet for racing fans as Acclaim, the
publishers of Sega's Ferrari 355 have hit a brick wall on the games
Australian release. Other Ferrari games were canned months ago as
Acclaim cancelled their deal with the world famous sports cars factory,
but this game was set to continue... Until a few days ago, when
Acclaim discovered the license never actually extended down into
Australia, instead just covering America and Europe.
So while Acclaim is working to find a solution, at the moment the
Ferrari's hand brake is on, the petrol tank drained, and the car locked
in the garage until they can sort things out.
