> > > SOE TALKS TO SEGA X
Just a few quotes from the interview here...
Sega X: Have you any news on the new arcade board Naomi which
is based on the Dreamcast hardware?
SOE: Naomi is more or less the dreamcast at maximum power. Similar
fashion as to how the System 12 board is the Playstation at maximum
power. Remember DC can do MODEL 3 standing on it's head.
Sega X: Both European and American release dates have been given a
vague Winter and Autumn 99 release dates respectively. Why will
there be a couple of months difference between those two launches?
SOE: If you are referring to the American and European launches no
date has yet been set. It is the companies intention to release the
Dreamcast in both Europe and America at the same time but as no
date is set there is bound to be a vagueness when SOE and SOA talk
about their launches.
Sega X: With strong rumours of a Playstation 2 release being brought
forward to a Christmas 1999 in Japan how do you think this will
affect your plans for Dreamcast?
SOE: These strong rumours are not coming from or being leaked by
Sony. Much in the same way that Dreamcast rumours began to appear
about two years before the official announcement the current PSX 2
rumours are little more than wishful thinking.
> > > THE MONSTERS ARE COMING... BUT ARE THEY REAL???
National Console Support, who are online importers of games, consoles,
and peripherals, have posted of the upcoming NEC title "Monster Breeder"
for the Dreamcast. Just take a look at thhis pic, and you can see some
of the amazing detail being put into this game. The Monsters are
wonderfully detailed with excellent textures, the shadowing effects are
very realistic, and the clouds in the sky are also very well done.
But now 3DO Interactive has accused the Monster Breed pic to be
pre-rendered CGI and nothing more! They've backed up their accusation
of the pic with the evidence that the creatures are casting a shadow
upon themselves, which is a feat that is virtually impossible to do
in real-time. However, another developer has said that such a feat
is entirely possible on the Dreamcast! They even have a game in
development that has such an effect. Be that as it may, we can only
know the truth when we see Monster Breed in motion.
Personaly, I think 3DO are just being @$$'s. Everyone knows they turned
down Dreamcast recently, they are trying to get other 3rd partys to do
the same. Thats pathetic 3DO, its much more of a Sony stragety.
> > > NIGHTS 2... AND FANTASY ZONE?!?
Game Weekly magazine has reported that NiGHTS 2 is a likely game for
the Dreamcast, which sounds like good news to me. They also believe
that the NiGHTS sequel would incorporate Mario 64 game elements with
the NiGHTS gameplay we're familiar with in a fully-polygonal 3D world.
That's well and good, but this next item is quite a surprise.
Apparently, a Fantasy Zone sequel may also be brought to the Dreamcast!!
Don't remember Fantasy Zone? Well, it's that weird Master Systam/Game Gear
game where you control this odd pink flying-saucer like ship in a side
-scrolling shoot-em up in a world that looks like a level out pf Kirby's
Dreamland (or is it that Kirby's Dreamland looks a lot like Fantasy Zone?).
Beside the fact that Fantasy Zone was probably one of the strangest games
ever made, the fact that it was made years ago makes it a strange candidate
to earn a sequel.
======== IMPORTANT MATTERS ==================================
Now all the Saturn games are out, here is a little guide for those
import titles still left...
All-Japan Pro Wrestling - 92%
Bomberman: Fight - 90%
Bomberman Wars - 81%
Dead Or Alive - 94%
Dragon Force II - 84%
Elevator Action Returns - 77%
Grandia - 87%
Gun Griffon II - 94%
King Of Fighters 97 - 91%
Megaman X4 - 91%
Metal Slug - 92%
Shihoutette Mirage - 90%
Tennis Arena - 86%
Thunderforce V - 91%
Vampire Savoir - 94%
There are actually quite alot of good import titles there, they
are rated like normal, but also on how well you could understand
them without knowing Jap. Hense the reason Grandia only got 87%.
======== ANTI-SEGA ==========================================
Just for fun, I'd like to know what you guys think should happen to
anti-Sega people? Should be tie them to a chair and make them watch Tellie
Tubbies and listen to Spice Girls 24 hours a day? Nah, thats a bit TOO
curel. How about... well e-mail me on Elijah@dchq.com your ideas! Should
be intresting! I'll print some of the most funny next time. :)
======== SURVEY =============================================
Last week I ran a survey on people's favorite Sonic game. Here
are the final results...
Total: 373 votes
42% - Sonic 3
9% - Sonic R
8% - Sonic 2
8% - Sonic 1
8% - Sonic & Knuckles
3% - Sonic 3D Blast
In the last issue I also did one about how old people thought
Sega Enterprises has been around since 1954, but the actual
Sega brand goes back about anouther 20 yearsfrom SErvice GAmes and
there pinball oberations. The very first coin operated game actually
developed by Sega was the Periscope witch was a mechanical shooting
game where players shot ships while looking through a periscope.
Before that they just imported coin-ops from Chicago and opened up
arcade centers in Japan. An American named David Rosin founded the
company. (wouldn't history be so much more intresting if we learnt
things like that eh? he he) - Thanks to Justin.
Due to e-mail overload problems I've had to remove the usual,
"e-mail your answer to me" type survey from this magazine. I'm sorry
about that, I actually thought it was a good way for reader
interaction. This week's surveys are...
> > > Sega 2000 - http://www.dchq.com/
Which of these Saturn games would you most like to see a sequal to?
> > > Sega X - http://www.segadreamcast.net/
Which one of these confirmed or probable games would you like to
see on the DC?
======== LETTERS ============================================
If you have a letter, please e-mail it to me at Elijah@dchq.com or
just click REPLY to this e-mail. Simple! I look forward to hearing from ya!
By the way, their are people from Sega on this mailing list so maybe
all these modem letters might have a bit of an effect... lets hope so! :)

> > > THE CONTROLLER: A SIMPLE SOLUTION
I believe I have a simple solution to the DC controller problem.
Sega could first of all add two more buttons to the front of the
controller, then they could add another two as shoulder buttons on the
top of the controller. I you understand what I meen. Keep up the good
work with your mag.
Sincerely,
Concerned Reader
> > > LETS TAKE A CLOSER LOOK...
This is in reply to all those people bitching and moaning because the
Dreamcast controller only has six buttions. What is the big deal?! Most of
you say the controller won't work good with games because it's limiting
itself with so few buttions. Let's compare this controller with others,
shall we?
The PSX controller: eight buttions. Does any game actally use all these
buttions in a way that must be used? If they have, I haven't seen them. The
Street Fighters only need six (As you all know probably know it uses the
other two as all punch, all kick buttions). Secondly, Does anyone even like
to use the L2 and R2 buttions of the PSX controller? I know I hate them. Too
confussing.
The Nintendo 64 controller: Nine buttions. It's been said that a controller
can make or break a system. As nice as this controller is, we can see that
it ain't dragging people over to Nintendo's treehouse.
The Dreamcast Controller: Eight buttions. One thing that keeps getting
insulted about the controller is that it's too big. Many have tried again
and again to point out one very important fact to these numbskulls: The
system is just small. That's right. It's a small system. The controller is
about the size of the N64 controller. Another thing insulted is that they're
only four buttions on the face. Does anyone else remember fighting games on
the PSX? Did that flop because it had four buttions on the face? I rest my
point.
In the end, More people perfer the way the DC Controller is set up. It's
been proven through sale numbers. Give it a break already.

> > > A CHANGE OF TOPIC!
Hello, first of all I want to say that you are doing a great job
with your magazines and your awsome web site.
Well, I have a question about the CD format that the Dreamcast uses.
I can't remember if I read this on your magazine or web site or someone
else's, but I remember reading something that said the Dreamcast uses a
higher density CD format (HDCD) which is suppose to hold more
information and have better quality. And now that the technology is
getting much better, there are also HDCD's for music CD's. They still
play on regular CD players but you won't hear the great sound that
HDCD's are suppose to deliver through your normal CD player. In fact, I
read that HDCD's sound terrible on a normal CD player. You need a CD
player that plays both CD's and HDCD's to notice the better sound
quality of the HDCD compared to the normal CD. CD's and HDCD's are the
exact same thing just recorded differently. The library of HDCD for
music right now is very low, but one of my favorite bands, KMFDM will be
releasing a new album and it will be recorded on the HDCD format, and
right now CD players which could play HDCD cost too much and the
Dreamcast would be a great source for playing music recorded on HDCD's
when this format becomes more popular and more artists use it. So I
wanted to know if it's true that the Dreamcast games are on the HDCD
format, and if they are, you should be able to play music recorded on
HDCD on the dreamcast just like how you were able to play normal CD's on
the saturn because it used normal cd's for their games.
SEGA 2000: Yep its true that the Dreamcast will use HDCD's and with that,
I can't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to play music on your DC.
I wounder what the CD player screen will be like actually, cool I hope!
> > > LEARN FROM THE 32X
I COMPLETELY aggree that Sega must include the modem or it will become
the 32X I bought one game for and locked away in my closet, never to be
released. If Sega does include the modem, it should be an external modem
card, like the ones Simple sells, so it can be upgraded. I'm sure a bunch
of 3rd party 56Ks will be out in no time at all.
And here's a situation that may happen. Let's say the person who doesn't
want the modem might buy a shooting game their friend has because they
think it's the best game they ever played & their friend challenges them
over the phone. Then they play and guess what? That person who hated the
modem now loves it.
Sega should pack in the modem so this would happen to many people who
don't want the modem. Then they make more profit on games that support
the modem. That's why they need it to win in the console wars.

> > > HOW ABOUT THIS?
I'm so sorry to the person who wrote this letter, but due to e-mail overloading
I lost your e-mail. Before that I did get a chance to read it and it was quite
intresting! He had the idea of holding down one of the L or R buttons at the same
time as pressing one of the main buttons. So L + A would be different than just
A for example. This method was used in Abes Odyseey originaly. What do people
think about this? If we can't get 2 more buttons I think its quite a good
idea.
