This week we present the Sega World Weekly Message Board. A
place to speak your mind on anything Sega related, and to
talk with other readers of SWW. Then remembering all the
developers and publishers that read our newsletter, perhaps
it's a good place to get your thoughts read by the gaming
companies of the world.

Check it out today at http://www.segaworldweekly.com/forum/

For starters, let us know what Dreamcast titles your
looking forward to on the forum :)

Then as April reaches an end, the E3 approaches. Last year
Sega ruled the show like no one ever before, and while this
time around they will have a smaller booth, just imagine
what we'll see... Sega games on the X-Box, the Gamecube,
the Playstation 2 and Gameboy Advance. Even old Saturn
titles coming back to life through the PSOne.

Panzer Dragoon has already been announced, but it just
boggles the mind thinking what the other 50-something
titles Sega might have, due out on other platforms by March
of next year! Then don't forget all the Dreamcast titles,
as Sega goes out with a bang on their last console.

Our Cover Feature this week takes a look at the Nintendo
Gamecube, after previewing the X-Box a few weeks back. We
take a look at the highs, the lows, the specs, and the
release dates. Then speaking of Nintendo, this weeks topic
for the letters page and forum topic is...

<<.>> Gamecube Previewed
      -- Written by Graham Parker

First revealed to the public just over eight months ago
now, the Gamecube is the next in line of Nintendo consoles,
and within the next six months you could be playing 128-bit
Mario.

The machine was originally due out in July, but as is
traditional for Nintendo, the console was recently delayed.
Still this should be the only delay, and while Europeans
still don't have a release date, chances are the upcoming
E3 show will bring one, along with pricing information.

As for Sega developing on the GameCube, both Sonic Team
And Amusement vision have been confirmed to be working on
New games for the machine. It's possible we'll see over
20 titles come from Sega within the next year.

Console: Nintendo Gamecube
Release: September 14 in Japan
         November in America
         Un-announced in Europe
Price: Rumored to be around $200

-- Features:

The entire console design is something of a new feature,
starting with the handle on the back. This allows you to
literally just pick up your console and go around to a
friends. Of course this could also make your console look a
little childish, but then again a few years ago we would
have probably said multi-colored consoles were childish.

Speaking of which, the Gamecube will be available in a
variety of colors, including Purple, Red, Gold, Silver, and
yes, Black. The cube it's self is 150mm wide (5.9 inches),
by 110mm high (4.13 inches), and 161mm deep (6.3 inches).

Which in comparison to the Dreamcast, is actually smaller
by a reasonable amount, but naturally taller. The machine
is about twice as high as your Dreamcast.

Inside the top of the machine goes your game disc, but it's
no ordinary CD, GD-ROM, or even DVD. Nintendo have created
their own mini 8cm DVD based disc, which makes it much
smaller than your usual CD. As Sega did with their GD-ROM,
this is in the hope of avoiding piracy, but Nintendo have
gone a step further here and quite possibly finished piracy
for good. Being an unusual sized disc, no one has a writer
that can produce discs that will fit into a Gamecube.

These discs hold 1.5GB of data each, which suddenly gives
developers as Nintendo an amazing amount of freedom
compared to the cartridges. While the Gamecube won't be
able to play DVD movies, hopefully this anti-piracy disc
will help to attract more 3rd parties, something the N64
did lack.

As for saving your games, unfortunately there's nothing
Like the VMU for the Gamecube, or a hard drive like the
X-Box. Instead Nintendo have gone with memory cards,
storing 1/2mb of information each (that's about twice the
VMU's space). To compare the X-box and Playstation 2
consoles have 8mb memory cards. Thankfully these Gamecube
cards will support add-on carts, taking the memory all the
way up to 64mb, and as for the VMU, perhaps the Gameboy
Advance can be used as a sort of mini-game device.

With Multi-player gaming being so important these days and
after rumors of Phantasy Star Online coming to the
Gamecube, what sort of a connection the console has to the
world wide web has become very important. Out of the box
the Gamecube has no connection, but a 56k modem will be
sold separately, and later a broadband device will be
released.

Finally a feature worth noting is the machines outputs,
in particular the Digital AV output. This means the machine
has the power to generate 480p images, allowing you to use
the Gamecube on your new HDTV. Using progressive scan mode,
games will run at a true full screen 60 frames per second,
unlike the interlaced 60 frames on other consoles and TVs.

So overall the Gamecube is a well thought out piece of
hardware, and in terms of power comes between the
Playstation 2 and the X-Box.

-- Main Concern:

The main concern would have to be the niche market many
gamers associate with Nintendo. In this age, Nintendo should
step up and go mass market, go for the number one spot, but
if they will or not remains to be seem. Nintendo is a very
traditional gaming company, and they aren't likely to change
easily.

<<.>> Toejam & Earl 3 Looking Great!

After almost half a year of no updates, mid-last week we
spotted the Toejam & Earl Productions website has been
updated. On April the 25th this year, they added, "The
game's looking GREAT! Can't wait to show you! (Look for a
brand new website, coming soon.)"

That's great news for Dreamcast players that have been
awaiting the third in the series, and the game should be a
brilliant platformer when it's released, there's little
doubt about that! We'll keep you updated right here.

What do you want to see in Toejam & Earl 3? Post your
ideas online at http://www.segaworldweekly.com/forum/

<<.>> Europe Releases Announced - New Price

European gamers are getting a break this week, as not only
is Skies of Arcadia is finally released, but it's at a new
budget price of £29.99. From now on all of Sega's upcoming
titles are going to retail for the cheaper price,
including...

Daytona USA 2001 - 11th May - Racing (Offline)
Confidential Mission - 25th May - Shooting
18 Wheeler - 1st June - Driving (Offline)
Sonic Adventure 2 - 23rd June - Platform
Crazy Taxi 2 - 6th July - Driving
Outtrigger - 20th July - Shooting (Online)

<<.>> Three More Games Canned

Unfortunately three big games get the axe this week,
including the biggest and most exciting PC release in
recent history, Black and White. Agartha and Take The
Bullet are the other two titles no longer coming to the
Dreamcast, with just the former being ported to the X-Box.

Finally Sega Europe have stated that the titles Ecco the
Dolphin 2 and the Real Arcade Pack are certainly not coming
out for the Dreamcast.

<<.>> Crazy Taxi World Championship

As they enter into their twentieth year of record keeping
for the video game industry, Twin Galaxies has launched a
World Championship to identify the world's greatest gamers
competing on Sega's popular Crazy Taxi video game.

Conducted on the Dreamcast, PS2 and arcade coin-op
platforms, the Twin Galaxies Crazy Taxi World Championship
will identify more than 200 champions competing on more
than 35 different tracks for both the NTSC and PAL formats,
with the results going into the next edition of Twin
Galaxies' Official Video Game & Pinball Book of World
Records, the electronic gaming industry's official book of
records.

For more information on the Crazy Taxi World Championship,
go to www.twingalaxies.com

Starting May 3rd and ending July 2nd, 2001, the event will
require competitors to submit videotapes of their best
scores achieved under strict game settings. Walter Day,
Chief Scorekeeper at Twin Galaxies, says: "It is absolutely
necessary to verify high scores through videotape because
there are so many difficulty settings, game cheats and other
variables that can affect the player's score. We make the
players play under standardized game settings."

In addition to winning entries in the Book of Records, top
players will receive ornate custom-made awards certificates
suitable for display.

<<.>> Virtua Fighter 4 - No Sumo!

With each new instalment to Sega's Virtua Fighter series,
two new characters are added. But for the first time,
rumors have it that one player will removed, Taka-Arashi.
The sumo that made his debut in Virtua Fighter 3, and
again provided a very different and realistic experience
for fighting fans. Virtua Fighter 4 is currently 55%
complete, and due out in June.

Should Taka be removed or not? What do you think? Post your
thoughts online at http://www.segaworldweekly.com/forum/

<<.>> Namco's Ninja Assault

Namco's new light gun shooting title, Ninja Assault, may
be coming to the Dreamcast and Playstation 2 this year.
Namco have been rumored to be publishing the PS2 version
of the game at home, while Sega will take on the duties of
the Dreamcast.

Namco started the Dreamcast's life off in style, perhaps
they can finish it in the same fashion.

<<.>> E3 Show Updates
      -- 2 1/2 weeks to go!

-- We Want You!

Well we want your ideas at least. Unlike the usual coverage
of news and screenshots you can find at any online website,
we're taking a much more reader orientated approach. What
games do YOU want to see? Who do you want us to talk to?
What free stuff do you want us to grab? :) Which console
are you most interested in reading about?

Working with Gamecube Weekly, in just two and half weeks
we'll be on the show floor. Please send in your E3 coverage
ideas and requests to e3trip@gamecubeweekly.com

-- E3 on DVD

For the past two years NextGenVideos have produced an E3
Video, then a VideoCD, and now in 2001 a DVD. Having
received both previous years videos, we can personally say
these guys know how to deliver for gamers. Now they have
the chance to pack two hours of footage onto a DVD, on the
"100% Unofficial E3 2001 DVD".

Complete with all the game footage, the DVD also has
interviews with developers, footage from over 30 different
companies booths, and even Dolby Surround Sound! The disc
will be released on the second week of June, and can be
pre-ordered for AUS$24.95 (about US$13) plus shipping
(AUS$5, US$3). The pre-order forms are here...

Now without sounding like a payed advert here, you can find
more information on the DVD at there website...

-- Over 750 new games!

According to the latest ISDA report, this year's E3 will be
hosting more than 750 "never-before-seen" video games and
related products, according to an exhibitor survey fielded
by the show's owner. The ISDA comments that about 400
companies, including 123 first-time E3Expo exhibitors will
showcase thousands of games and products at this year's
show, which will be held May 17th to 19th at the Los
Angeles Convention Center. We hope that our readers give us
a hand deciding which of those 750 games and products we
should drool over.

-- What, no Lara Croft??

Our editor has been drooling over the prospect of getting
getting to meet 'booth babes', so it is with a sad heart
that I have to tell him that this year Eidos will not have
a hot model to promote the Tomb Raider franchise. They
decided that its best not to promote a new model in order
to quell any confusion of the upcoming summer flick, Tomb
Raider: The Movie. Eidos will not be publishing a new Tomb
Raider title this year, and thus there's very little
relevance to acquire a new model for promotional purposes.

A new feature titled the "L6 Special" was added to the

feature one item at a very low price. Only one item will be

short time (one day) or a long time (weeks). This time
period will not be regular and will not be posted on the

prices will be cut drastically (right now, the price is cut
from $10.95 to $5.45). The first item is for the
Playstation, a Mini DDR Controller.

<<.>> PSO Complaints

Q) Having 'invested' £70 in online call charges for PSO I
recently had the misfortune to be playing on a JP server
when it crashed resulting in a loss of my lvl 68
character plus associated items. After calling the
various Sega helplines, they offered no reassurances
that it would not happen again, what is going on? You
can not have on line gaming where you can't backup your
data up and run the risk of losing everything, I have
decided to take this further with Sega and over the
weekend will be sending off letters to Sega demanding an
explanation and to any online sources that I can find.
   Any ideas? - Martin Elder

A) Yeah, deal with it. PC gamers have already learned that
when playing an online game, there will be crashes.
Gamers playing Diablo2 and Ultima Online have found that
sometimes something breaks and you lose your character.
It sucks, some companies such as Blizzard have started
to 'restore' characters lost to a crash, but it took a
lot of complaints before they did.

<<.>> Sports Game Gamers

Q) I have a question about NBA2k1. When I make my own
player in the customize section of the game and then
import him into a team he doesn't show up in franchise
mode. So how do I create a player that I can play on
franchise mode, if that is even possible? Go Mavericks!
Have a great day. - Christoffer Heggelund

A) To be honest I'm not much of a sports games person, and
I thought my neighbour owned NBA2k1 so he could answer
this question but it turns out he only owns NBA2k...so
do any readers know the answer? Go Trail Blazers!

<<.>> PSO ver.2

Q) Please get as much info as you can about the updated
version of PSO. American fans of the game are rabid to
have it, and very worried that it won't be released.
   Thanks. - Joe

Hi, I've seen some pics of PSO Ver. 2 and read a lot
about it, but I haven't seen a U.S. release date. Can
you find out when it's going to be released?
    - Rick Gautier

A) Wheel of Release Dates, turn turn turn, tell us the date
we wish to learn..."E3 Shall Reveal All...and yes PSOv2
   is coming to America!"

<<.>> More Sporty Sports Questions

Q) Could you tell me if Sega Sports has started working on
   NFL2K2? Thanks. - Kerry P.

A) Yes. E3 shall reveal gameplay information.

<<.>> The World is White and Blue!

Q) Hey. My PC can't pull off the graphics needed for Black
& White so the Dreamcast is my last hope to be a God.
When might B&W be coming out for the DC, and if it does
come out for the DC do I need to buy the DC Mouse?
   Thanks. -Joe

A) Actually, it looks like it switched publishers. With
SEGA picking the game up. I wasn't able to find a
release date, but I'm hoping Sega announces something
   at E3.

Hot Topic: What System Do I Buy Next?
Cold Topic: Changing People's Letters

<<.>> "Just Buy the Game!" - says the Canadian Girl

Hey Zondaro, "Just buy the pirated copies". Come on what
kind of advice is that?! Can Humberto play games in jail?
Geez! The Sega-know-it-all should be able to find out how
Sega DC games can be imported into Mexico...legally.
 - Angelina from Canada

[Hey, I also said that Ebgames.com ships to Mexico, and
that someone in Mexico City, one of the largest cities
in the world, must sell legal games. I was only jesting
when I said that. Of course SWW in no way supports
pirates. Unless, they have funny parrots. - ZOndaro]

<<.>> Responses: "What System are you most excited about?"

Xbox because I preordered my PS2 and was kinda
disappointed although I finished Star Wars Starfighter
and thought it was better than Starlancer. I hope that
the Xbox is going to be better but I do not think I will
 pre-order this time.
  - Wallace Mallery

The console I'm looking forward to the most is the XBox.
It's the most high spec and has a whole range of cool
Sega games coming out. The PS2 doesn't interest me at
all. The games look crap and it doesn't really offer
anything over the DC. I have started taking an interest
in the GameCube. From the games I've seen this looks to
be the most impressive. I'll have to wait and see what
games comes out. Which ever system gets Skies of Arcadia
2 will be the one I purchase.
  - Jose Garcia

The system I am most excited about would have to be the
Xbox. With the PC game support, PC monitor adapter,
rumored Sega GD support, DVD, great graphics, keyboard
and mouse hookups it looks to be a major competitor.
  - Lildude

[Before everyone writes in, Xbox will not support PC
games. Only games made specifically for Xbox -ed.]

I am most excited about the Dreamcast still. It's because
I get $10 games for it and the games are better than any
others out there today. Don't get me wrong because I have
played lots of games already on the PS2 and they don't
impress! Sega games have always been the games for me and
they always will be, nothing has overcome Sega yet!
  - Marko

I think the Gamecube is going to rock the house at this
year's E3! Mario, Zelda, Joanna Dark and Samus!
  - Ross Fisher

[Wait... the guy who also runs Gamecubeweekly.com can't
   comment! - Tails]

<<.>> Bob Malmet Responses

I just read the last newsletter. Your response to Bob's

<<.>> Don't Mess with this Letter

I read your publishing of my MY Editorial on FOX's
cancellation of Alien Resurrection and your questionable
preference for Buffy. Normally, I would be happy that you
printed my letter to you, however, in view of the fact you
not only condensed it but, also incorrectly quoted it and
made fun of your incorrect quote of it, is a disgrace!
I NEVER said the word "sucked", nor was stupid enough to
use the term "was sucked" as printed. Nor am I British, so
I do not misspell the word "analyzed" as "analysed"! It
really go me MAD, that you not misquoted me, but had the
nerve to make fun of me, based upon your misquote! I said
that both Buffy and Planet of the Apes would probably be
"botched" by Fox. Do you see the words "screwed up" in that
sentence? Of course not! When you quote me with my name and
Email Address included, in a weekly newsletter read by
people worldwide, you had better quote me accurately! I
demand a written apology for this injustice to be printed
 in your next newsletter!

And for your information, after my friend and I went
through hell, because of Fox's not Web-Friendly Site, to
get an Email Address to write to them; I finally got a
reply to a note I wrote to them on the Alien Resurrection
matter. 1st they denied emphatically, that they ever
considered Alien Resurrection for DC. They stood on their
PSX release in Nov. 2000; totally denying quite
fraudulently, their original intentions of the DC release
pending. They clearly stated that they had no intentions
of releasing either Buffy or PoA for DC. In fact they were
adamant that they have no intentions of releasing any DC
games, since the console is no longer being manufactured!
Furthermore, they totally ignored my suggestion that they
sell the rights to Alien Resurrection to ACCLAIM, who not
only has had success with that movie franchise before, but
also, represents one of the top DC publishers!

Any case, since I have the original letter which I sent to
you via Email, where I can prove to anyone I desire, the
true contents of the letter; I would urge you to plan ahead
for a written apology to me, in a future newsletter. It is
true that any submissions anyone has made to your newsletter
becomes your property to do as you wish. However, when you
rewrite such submissions with false quotes and further make
fun of the person's submission based upon your false
quotes; you are talking about a potential Defamation Of
Character and Slander Suit. Put yourself in my place.
Wouldn't you be upset, if it was you?
  - Bob Malmet

[I would like to take this moment to apologize for last
week when I printed his letter for 40,000 people to read.
I would also like to apologize for the English language,
which causes so many spelling mistakes every issue. In
closing I would like to again state that, Alien
Resurrection will suck no matter what system it is on.
