11/17-->

SOA isn’t too concerned with anyplace but Japan right now.
SOA has been calling up import shops telling them to not stock
DCs until February. They want to make sure that Japan gets
all the consoles they need before letting the rest of the
world have their chance at it. Also, Sega said that they
would take legal action on any stores that stock it early.
Some of you are probably thinking, “Damn! I want one now!!”.
Well, I think Sega is doing a smart thing. You probably
should wait til it’s launched where you live anyway.
Otherwise, you have an import system that only plays import
games as far as I know. Anyway, you can make your own
decision... don’t listen to me ...:)

*sigh* Once again, Sega has changed the dates of some
upcoming (or incoming?) games. Reminds me of the N64
situation...not fun. Here are the date changes.

Incoming - December 17
Monaco Grand Prix Simulation 2 - February 1999

“Here is anoderr one of dem newfounded ‘intarveews’.”
Seriously, Edge magazine has an interview with the general
manager of AM1, Rikiya Nakagawa. AM1 is working on House
of the Dead 2 (Woohoo!!!), Blood Bullet, and Dynamite
Baseball ‘98 (great, another baseball game...*cough cough*).
Anyway, here is a direct link to part of that interview.
Basically, what he is saying is that the Naomi is easily
ported over to the DC, and that Naomi is more powerful than Model 3.

Here are a bunch of smaller stories that had come up over
that last weekend...

Sega has confirmed that the Asian version of DC, with
the English manual, will be modemless. It will also be
about $40 cheaper. OK. Does nothing for me. You people
importing DCs?

Model 3? Quoth the Raven, “Nevermore.” All AM teams
have discontinued prduction of Model 3 games and are now making
Naomi games. They shalt use Model 4 when thee is available.

Kenji Eno says D2 is done. *ahem* Let me clarify that.
D2’s STORY is done. Think about this. This game was
supposed to be a launch title. Don’t expect it for a while.

In Japan, many many magazines based on the DC are to be
released. These mags include Dreamcast Magazine, Dreamcast
Press, Dreamcast Fan, Dengeki Dreamcast, Famitsu DC,
Dreamcast Cheese Watchers Monthly...the list keeps going.
Oops! All but that last one. Ahem...I was caught up in the
momentum. Heh heh heh...

11/20-->

Well, we finally got some details on what the Dreamcast
Passport will be used for...

Internet WWW surfing (HTML 3.2, but will support some
HTML 4.0 features including frame support).

E-mail send and receive.
Chats.
Data reception for Visual Memory, and saving on VM.
User registration & ID issuance.
Tracking of user fee.
Visual Memory is to be used for saving bookmarks and e-mail data.

That’s pretty cool. Now you don’t have to have a PC
or WebTV to experience the internet (umm...PC would
be the best choice I think however...).

Jeff Gordon Racing. Now from this you may be thinking,
“Another Nascar game? Dammit!” Well, you are thinking
wrong. Well, if you said “Dammit” you would be thinking
right. It is a futuristic racing game, and to me it
looks like a piece of $h!t. The gaming world already
has these games, and this one just looks like it tries
too hard. I doubt Jeff Gordon *really* has anything to
do with this game. Anyway. It is available for Playstation
before Christmas, and the N64 version is in development.
The DC version is being planned, but is not totally
official. Let’s hope it falls through...

New screenshots of Sonic Adventure were released. Check
them out on the news page...

Umm...I don’t get much from this story, but apparently
Sega Rally 2 (arcade I would guess) has won an award
from Intel. Super. Great. I have never played the game
so I can’t agree or disagree with this. Looks like a
good game though ...first one was good ...

And finally, for something that has nothing to do with
DC. Nights handheld game. Tiger electronics has released
a Nights handheld game. You can win one of 3 of these games
aswell at the Fan Chat III (see below) It also has a data
link in which you can upload high scores to your PC
(What the hell for??). Anyway, that’s all I have to say
‘bout that.

Those were this week’s happenings. Next week’s shall
be enjoyed...5 days...

---> WHAT MAKES A GOOD GAME?
---> Written By Adam

During the life of the Saturn, gamers have witnessed the
machine being buried in large amounts of half-baked Pony
Haystation (please stop, my tummy’s hurting!) “games” if
they were even considered worthy of that title. However,
the unjust world of video games named the Playstation as
console king because of its immense sales and popularity.
Now, everybody knows that the Saturn had way better titles
than Playstation (feel free to flame), but the fact was that
the Playstation had more hype and advertising than its
32-BIT counterpart. The big question I put before the readers
today, “should a successful or good game judged on sales?”
Hopefully, the Dreamcast will be able to pump out excellent
titles to win the next-generation console wars, but that is
up to Sega.

One would say that the general volume of sales proves whether
a game is quality or not. However, in the book industry the
Romance genre is the top-selling of all genres, which I
would not consider as quality. Look at Panzer Dragoon Saga,
it was an excellent A class title that didn’t sell because of
the lack of available Saturn units across the UK and US. Although
gaping at polygon-breasted females isn’t my piece of cake, Tomb
Raider 2 remains as a top-seller in the gaming industry because
of Lara’s sexually attractive features.

The Nintendo 64 games remain as best-sellers also, despite
the fact it has a lack of games in its catalogue, or
quality for that matter. Nintendo’s strategy for the N64 is
to starve consumers of games so that they become desperate
for any new release that comes out. This idea could work even
better on the Dreamcast, but I do not think that the Dreamcast
is aimed at that sort of strategy. After all, it has more
third parties than the Playstation, why would they need to
starve gamers?

With ease of development on the Dreamcast architecture, it
is possible that many rubbish games could make it onto the
shelves. However, it would be hard to make a poor looking
game for the Dreamcast judging by recent screenshots of
Climax’s produce. Like the N64, the DC could be buried in
“all graphics but no gameplay” titles, but at least we
have Sega’s awesome in-house to depend on when the garbage
is passing by.

When man first laid eyes on Playstation and Saturn titles,
they thought of the graphics as beautiful but knew deep
inside of them that it could reach a higher state of
perfection. The Dreamcast is the polygon perfection that gamers
have been looking for. Quite frankly, I could not imagine a game
looking more perfect than Virtua Fighter 3 (the yardstick of 3D
performance) or Sega Rally 2 (the greatest racing game thus far).
Which brings me to the conclusion that the gameplay is the
only thing that needs to be fine-tuned.

Capcom even admitted that it would be near impossible to push
the Dreamcast to its limits, let alone the inevitably more
powerful Playstation 2. Saturn fans have played games with
perfect gameplay, that very few developers are gifted with.
Such people as Sega, Rare, Namco, and Capcom have that kind of
flare. We are part of a future in gaming, and now it is obvious
that a good or successful game should be balanced well between
graphics and gameplay. A popular title is not necessarily good,
most are just hyped up rubbish - *cough* Gran Turismo.
If a game is to be successful, it has to be successful in
presenting the gamer with a new experience that is fun to play.

======[ SURVEY ]==========================================

Sega X is currently running a survey where they would like for
you to tell them what your 5 most wanted Dreamcast games are.
You can pick from any of the great Japanese titles that have
been announced. They'd also like to see which games you think
will be completely rubbish, so please include 2 games that
you think will fail miserably to impress.

======[ EDITORAL ]========================================

Hello, folks! Well, my game is going rather nicely. If
you would like a copy of the first 1/2 hour script, point
your browser to www.cosmic78.com/fantasoft/fstar.doc.
Well, here's my editorial:

Sega Saturn. Some say a failure, some say it was the best.
I liked it, but it wasn't half of what Genesis was. Some
games on it, however, have yet to be topped.

Now, Playstation has an emulator out that, if you have a
3Dfx card, makes PSX games look incredible. Why don't we
see a Saturn one? I like my computer's controller (Sidewinder),
and I think it would enhance the gameplay of most games.
And I wouldn't really mind the 3Dfx graphics, either.

PSEmu, the "most promising" PSX emu, is to complicated for me.
PSYKE, while easy to use, doesen't support half the games
PSEmu does. Why do I bother saying this? If someone makes
a Saturn emu, they better do it right. They should have a
quick software renderer and a lightining-fast 3Dfx one.
They should support all the joysticks that Windows does. All
this would bring the best & fastest gameplay I've ever played.

Sega, if you're reading this, this may be a good idea. You
could sell it for $20-$30 and easily make money. I would
love to play all of my Saturn games in 640x480 on my
computer monitor.

So, if anyone has any Qs or Cs (questions or comments),
email me at sonic999@juno.com.

---> SCARED SONY

I think that Sony is scared shitless about the Dreamcast launch
and the PSX2 is available only in blueprints. The only thing
Sony can do is try to scare people from buying a dreamcast
hinting that the PSX2 will be better. Well let's not fall into
this plan and don't play their game. PSX2 is far from ready so
let's concentrate on the Dreamcast and leave the worrying to Sony.

Thank you, Pierre Roberge"

REPLY: Well one things for sure, Sony wen't prepared for this! :)
You could be very right there too, Sony created alot of rumours
for an announcement about the Playstation 2 happening this month,
and even an April 99 release. While these arn't true, they can
give people a reason to hold off on the Dreamcast... I admit after
the no show from Sony this month, the future is looking a lot
brighter than I thought last week. Sega's got the market to it's
self for a year, and Sony's scared everyone will forget Sony before
they release the PSX2. - Elijah

---> RPGs

The RPGs that got me hooked were Shining Force, and Phantasy Star 3.
I am well known (well, by three other people) as a collecter of Sega
RPGs. I have ten for my Saturn, and I plan on buying Magic Knight
Rayearth (if it ever comes out), and Mystaria, even though I already
have Blazing Heroes, just so I can have every single Saturn RPG ever
released (US RPGs. I don't know a whole lot of Japanese). I hate
FF7, because it made RPGs go mainstream (I hate things that
everyone else likes, such as South Park), but for some reason, if a
Dreamcast RPG became the most popular game of all time, I wouldn't
mind. Also, I have made a series of RPGs on my graphing calculator
called Cheesequest, and my lifelong dream is to make Cheesequest
for a Sega system. Don't be surprised if you see it on Dreamcast
someday... But until then, LONG LIVE SEGA!!! LONG DIE SONY!!!

REPLY: Why sould Sony die? Without their competion, we might
have seen the same old boring games that Sega made for the
Megadrive/Genesis (What?!?! - Elijah). Now, due to the
competion, Sega had to make games like VF2, NiGHTS and the
Panzer series to even survive. And why hate things that become
really popular and that everyone else likes? If something I
like gets really popular, I only get happy on the behalf of
the people who did it. NIGHTS wasn't THAT popular, but it is my
favorite game ever. Super Mario World sold more copies than
Saturns, but until NiGHTS came out, that was my favorite
game. And I didn't care if anyone else loved it, just as
long as I did. - Andreas

---> A Dreamcast game every gamer deserves

To start, let me state that your site is positively
superlative. You are my chief source for Dreamcast news. Keep it up.

Now, let me say that I have full optimism in the Dreamcast and
its scheduled launch titles. But, not every part of me is
satisfied. Sure, Sonic is coming, but he's only a compound of
Sega and its many software staples. I'm talking about Sega's
past masterpieces. Everybody loves to see classic Sega games
carried-over to the next generation. And somewhere I read that
Sega would be reviving a certain game from its past, but
wouldn't disclose which one. So, why not Streets of Rage? It was
once one of Sega's most lucrative draws. How could they forget
something that made them so much money? I can recall a time when it
seemed Streets of Rage 4 was underway and headed for Saturn. But, later,
it solidified into Fighting Force, which, of course, was a
pile of fuming crap. So, Sega, help us forget the blunder that
was Fighting Force, and serve us up some long-overdue ass-kicking,
Streets of Rage style.

Thinking you guys rule to an extreme,

Owen Schumacher, a bleeding-heart fan

REPLY: A certain game from it's past? That game is actually more
common knowledge than most people think, Ecco The Dolphin. :) I
can't wait to see it, but I imagine it will be a 1999 game. But
anyway yes, why not Streets Of Rage? It ruled! Well Spike Out
is coming first, but if that succeeds very well, I can easily
imagine a Streets Of Rage coming... can't you? - Elijah

Written and edited by Elijah Parker (just so you know who
to blame for the terrible spelling... he he... and who's
real name isn't even Elijah, it's Graham! But anyway, that's
a totally different story) The magazine is owned by
Sega 2000 / Sega X and no parts may be copied without
prior permission. I would have to send out my group of
highly trained thugs who will have a tea party with you
until you crack and your mind turns into jello... MMmmmmm....
Sweet Sweet Jello.... hehe, anyway... If you have any
friends that might be intrested in this magazine, it would
be excellent if you could let them know about it. Thanks!

p.s Now I just couldn't not mention the new Star Wars tralier
could I? Nope... and it looks very cool indeed!! It keeps
the old Star Wars look, which I think is good, and has the
characters like Yoda (yay!) in it ofcourse. Titanic holds
the world record for biggest movie of all time so far, but
could it be beaten? We'll see next year... I can't wait!

So here is a few ways of telling if your a Star Wars "geek"
I found on the net...

1. When you pass out while trying to move a pencil across
the desk with the Force.

2. when you get jealous of luke because his light saber is
double the size of yours

5. When you get into a fight, you automaticly find yourself
reaching for a lightsaber...

6. If you get your head stuck in a bucket pretending your
Darth Vader

8. You punch out trekkies who say "Death star my ass, I'd
like to see those losers take out DS9".

9. With a blue-tinted plastic tube, a flashlight, two
hours of a saturday night, and 4 rolls of blue electrical
tape, you finally complete your own working "Light-saber"

11. You put on a luminous coloured condom and walk around
humming, pretending you're a light-saber.

14. You think you are the life of the party because you
imitate Yoda's voice and have him say things a Jedi master wouldn't say.

15. Whenever you get in trouble, you mutter
"I have a bad feeling about this."

16. when you listen for Obi-Wan while attempting to parralell park.

1.... No I think we'll cut it there, remind me, why am I putting these
in here? Arn't they surposed to be funny?!? Ok here's a few better ones...

You punch out people that say,"But I thought Han Solo flew
the Enterprise?"

hehe, and that would be all. Cya next week guys :)
