Another big issue! At last our Game Mistakes feature is here,
along with a preview of Furballs. We have cheats for Crazy
Taxi and King Of Fighters Dream Match '99, and rumors about
Star Ocean on Dreamcast! But the best is the news from this
week... 23 US Launch Titles, success in Japan, SOA making
Sega 2000's Forum a DreamBoard, the Demo CD contents and
much more.

We had a great response to our Game Mistakes request... with
bugs like heads dropping off, and flying tanks, to a Jewish
Sonic!

======| COVER STORY |=====================================
----------------------------------------------------------

>>>> Game Mistakes - Interactive
>>>> Compiled By Tails

A few weeks ago, we started asking for people to send in
any funny game mistakes they found... Thanks to everyone
who sent them in. We will have another interactive feature
soon :)

>>>> Bloody War 2 Bringer Of The New Age - ANDY

On the options screen, movies & pictures, only one of the
five movies can be played, the others bug the PSX leaving
me only one option........turn it off.( I don´t know if on
other countries this also happened, but on mine, Chile, it
did).

>>>> Crash Bandicoot Warped - ANDY

Baku-Baku (the mask) has four feathers (on the intro movie
and after you jump on a box), blue, yellow, red and purple,
but on any stage, the baku-baku boxes have five feathers,
blue, yellow, green, red and purple.

>>>> Gex 3 - ANDY

When you have a close cam on gex, move next to a wall, the
wall will appear to move forwards and backwards, up and
down. You can see this better on the posters from the first
stage.

>>>> Enduro Racer - Ivan Mecking

A long time ago I was playing "Enduro Racer" at the
Master System with my cousin and sister. We tried to drive
into the "Woman with the flag" at the finish, now comes the
funny part; sometimes if you drive exactly with your bike
into the woman, her head drops off , and lies in the dirt!
I think that's a weird bug, isn't it?

>>>> Israeli Air Force - ELTAYDORE

I got a weird one for you. In the PC game "Israeli Air
Force" by Jane's, there's a bug where if you choose a
certain plane on one of the training missions, you
actually fly a tank! When I first saw it, I was on the
ground laughing with my friend.

>>>> Mortal Kombat 4 - ANDY

After performing a fatality with scorpion, the fire from
your opponent are really ugly big pixels (square), even
my game-gear has better graphics.

>>>> Sonic 2 - KYLER CHRISTENSEN

It's a cheat (providing NO benefit in completing the game)
that will let you play as a mysterious character known as
"Ashura the Hedgehog". He looks a lot like Sonic only
green and sleeker with a black mask-like thing over the
front of his face. To play as him, grab your Genesis, blow
the dust off of it, and insert Sonic 2 . Enter the "stage
select" and "debug" codes:

- Stage Select - Select "options" from the title screen.
Play sounds: "19, 65, 9, 17" (the date of Yuji Naka's
birthday). You should hear a ring chime. Then hit start
to reset. Now at the title screen, hold A and push start.
This will bring you to a menu where you can select your
starting point. Instead, highlight "sound test"...

- Debug - And play sounds: "1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4"
(the release of the game in the U.S.) You should hear a
chime. Now you're ready to put the debug code into effect.
To do this, highlight any stage, (in this case "Emerald
Hill Zone", act 1 or 2 to play as Ashura) hold A and
push start. Continue to hold A until Sonic appears and
the stats of your score, rings, and lifes go into hex mode.

To work debug mode, push B to turn into that Zone's
theme objects, cycle through them with the A button and
place the object with the C button. To play as Ashura,
hit B right when the stage begins, and the directional
buttons to slide over to about half of the next screen.
Tap A to turn into different objects. Go to the object
that has a stack of four rings. Push A one more time to
turn into an invisible object (a waterfall). Now start
rapidly pushing C so that you cover the whole frame
screen (one screen away from the beginning) with the
waterfalls. Do this until you see your stats take on a
blue shadow. When this happens, push B to turn into
Ashura the Hedgehog. (taking care not to fall off the
screen). Ashura has no real advantage over Sonic and
will not help you complete the game any faster, unless
you find the source of your motivation in green colored
game characters.

>>>> Sonic 3 - JOSHUA SMYTHE

Sonic The Hedgehog is Jewish. You may wonder how I know
such things about the religion of everyone's favorite
blue mammal and what in the name of Jehovah does it have
to do with video game mistakes... Well I'm not referring
to Sonic's preference to kosher meals but rather the
small Jewish hat that he wears whilst praying... preying
on the insidious Dr Robotnik.

In Sonic 3 whilst facing the final boss Sonic the hedgehog
for the first time ever was allowed to carry rings with
him into the fracas, rings which he lost when fighting
his evil nemesis, but by re-collecting that single ring
in his supply he could cling to life indefinitely. However,
for some reason this ring stopped being a ring and was
incorrectly replaced with an obscure sprite from somewhere
on the Doctor's death machine, not that it really mattered,
it could be collected like a ring so all was fair and good.
With one exception. If Sonic ran underneath this sprite
(which, as you may have guessed looked like a yellow Jewish
cap) he would not collect it as a ring, it would just sit
on his head. There you go, probably not that funny, but I
was amused.....

>>>> Sonic Adventure - SUPER GOHAN

In Sonic Adventure, when you run on the beach with no
accessories, you make footprints as Sonic, but if you get
any of the items, you don't have any foot prints!!!!

>>>> Sonic Adventure - TAILS

On the beach level, if you use the D-Pad to look up into the
sky... you'll notice there's 2 suns! Now wasn't this game
set on Earth?

>>>> Sonic Adventure - TAILS

At the end of every level you get a score, based on your
time, rings etc... but do you ever get to see your total
score? If so, I haven't found out how yet. In the bonus
games it is kept in the records... but the normal levels...
strange.

>>>> Sonic R - ASHLEY

You know the door which doesn't seem to lead to anywhere,
(to the left of the doo-dah that shoots you ahead) it
releases a grey Emerald, doesn't it? And when you collect
the emerald, you don't fall down the hole. Weird.

>>>> Sonic R - AHSLEY

Knuckles doesn't climb. In he manual it says that he can
climb up some vertical walls. I've tried everything, and I
can't get him to.

>>>> Street Fighter 2 - Anon.

Do you guys remember when that big Street Fighter II
contest was held shortly after the release of the game??
That guy -what was his name?- won undefeated with Guile,
by just crouching (defensive) and Flash kicking. Also,
it might not be a bug, but aerial attacks into throws
(straight away) in Street Fighter II : The World
Warrior was the epitome of "cheap".

>>>> Street Fighter Alpha 3 - C.C.R

Since Capcom had to make the people smaller to just make
the game run right on the PSX system... super combos can
go right pass someone... and if your behind Akuma... he
can kick you. Now thats some reach!!

>>>> Street Skater - Anon.

The player can be careering along nicely, building up
speed, when all of a sudden, an obstacle appears out of
nowhere. This is fairly standard of second rate games...
but then you try to jump it, and guess what? You get stuck
in mid air above the obstacle, only to be sent crashing
to the ground and endure a consequent loss of 300 points.

>>>> Syphon Filter - Anon.

You can use the grenade launcher (aimed directly at your
feet) to kill everybody around you, yet you do not die.
Weird....but not annoying.

>>>> Tomb Raider (1,2, and 3) - ANDY

When standing next to a closed door, look around and you
will be able to see through the walls. (heh, yes I've used
that trick a few times - Tails)

======| NEWS |============================================
----------------------------------------------------------

>>>> 23 Launch Titles For America!!

Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM) is running a giant cover
story on the Dreamcast for its September issue with more
than 26 pages filled with Dreamcast games. A portion of
this space is dedicated to the Dreamcast launch and, more
specifically , to the games that will be available at
launch - all 23 of them. That's right - as of today there
are 23 titles being prepared for September, and EGM has
researched and confirmed with each developer what to expect
on the 9th. Granted, unforeseen snags could delay
production on certain titles, or Sega may simply hold back
certain titles so as not to saturate their launches but
as of today, these are all confirmed.

1. TNN Motorsports Hardcore Heat
2. Ready 2 Rumble
3. NFL Blitz 2000
4. Mortal Kombat Gold
5. Hydro Thunder
6. Sonic Adventure
7. NFL 2000
8. Superspeed CART Racing
9. House of the Dead 2
10. Soul Calibur
11. Power Stone
12. Marvel vs. Capcom
13. TrickStyle
14. Rainbow Six
15. Aero Wings
16. Tokyo Xtreme Racing
17. Slave Zero
18. Soul Fighter
19. Monaco Grand Prix
20. Speed Devils
21. Armada
22. Blue Stinger
23. Air Force Delta

Two side notes that are relevant to this article are
that Slave Zero may not make its launch date due to the
unavailability of online support. King of the Fighters
99 is also being considered for launch, but no official
plans have been announced.

>>>> SOJ Happy With Dreamcast's New Price

With the Dreamcast's price reduced to a mere 19,900 Yen on
the 24th of June, it was the perfect week for Sega to
promote their machine as much as possible. As you've read
over the past few days, the response to this price drop
has been great.

Speaking on behalf of SOJ, Mr. Yakawa commented "During
this bad economic period in Japan, the increase in sales of
the Dreamcast is surely great news for us. From what we've
seen, we're expecting far more hardware sales over the
upcoming months, due to the strong lineup of games and
effective marketing campaign which we have planned. From
our point of view, the future for our machine is looking
great."

With approximately 65,000 machines sold in just four days,
it would seem that Mr. Yakawa's statements are proving
correct. We can only hope that these trends continue.

>>>> Sonic Underground in New Zealand

On school holidays this week, I flicked on the TV... and
there was Sonic Underground! The new cartoon is on TV3
weekdays at 3:30pm. Pity Tails isn't in it, but at least
they kept a few things from the SatAM cartoon. Worth
checking out.

Our support site, has plenty of information on it infact...
http://www.suneet.com/soniczone/sonic_underground/
If you live in the UK, you can catch Sonic Underground as
part of GMTV's Diggit - every Sunday at 8:20 am, on ITV!
- Tails

>>>> SOA Confirms Demo CD Contents

SOA has confirmed the content of the Demo CD you get with your
US Dreamcast. It will contain playable demos of Ready 2 Rumble,
Sonic Adventure, The House of Dead 2, Cart Racing, Monaco Grand
Prix Simulation 2, Power Stone and Get Bass. But that's not all,
you also get videos of Hydro Thunder, Sega NFL 2000, Sega NBA
2000 and Blitz 2000!
- Tails

>>>> Virtua Striker '99 Online

At the moment in Japan, Virtual Striker 2 is one more
anticipated Dreamcast title waiting to be released.
Apparently, the Japanese public are requesting that Sega add
in Internet support for the game, allowing them to test
their skills online. Unfortunately, SOJ have yet to
finalize on whether or not they are to go ahead with these
plans, due to one problem, LAG.

Because of the game's relatively complex graphics, Sega are
worried that if they go ahead with online play, it could prove
to be almost unplayable over the DC network. Should they
manage to work their way around this problem however, we
should definitely be seeing some sort of Internet support.

======| PREVIEW |=========================================
----------------------------------------------------------

>>>> Furballs

>>>> Release: Spring 2000
>>>> Written by Matthew Langan

On our recent trip to Bizarre Creations, we were under the
impression that Metropolis Street Racer would be the
highlight of our visit - how wrong we were. While a stunning
title, we were equally impressed by Furballs, if not more
so. Although early in development, our first play left us
eager for just one more go. If you're looking for
playability and fun, Furballs will definitely provide all
that, and a whole lot more.

Just to refresh everyone's memory, Furballs is described
as a "third person cartoon action puzzle adventure shoot
-em-up". Combining the best bits of almost every game
you've ever played, Bizarre Creation's 2nd title is
definitely an interesting one.

The story starts many years ago in Furball Village. The Evil
General Viggo, a huge white cat decided to try and invade.
All the animals fought in the Great War, and the General was
defeated, and last seen speeding off on a Jet Ski. All
returned to normal - the Furballs all lived peacefully with
their families and gun collections.

Furballs is broken into a series of different levels and
worlds. With each of the former taking up to 2 hours and
possibly more to complete, this game will definitely appeal
in the lastability area. In fact, Bizarre are currently
hoping to make the game at least 50 hours long! In the
time we were able to play, we saw a number of differently
themed levels, set in forests, construction areas and even
a snow filled New York!

What makes Furballs quite unique is how it works. Assuming
that you'd pick one of the six animals from the beginning
of your quest, we were enlightened to hear that you'll
need to play as a variety of them in order to complete each
challenge. This is done by six transportation pods, each
featuring their own characters' heads. For example, if you're
playing as Rico the penguin, and need to get up on to a
higher area in order to collect a special item, you'll need
to change into Bungalow the Kangaroo in order to get there.

Throughout each area, you'll have to shoot bad guys, collect
various items, rescue all five babies and solve a number of
challenging puzzles. Believe us when we say this, it's
tremendous fun. Speaking of baddies, the main type is the
bear. Clothed differently to suit each style of the level
you're on, you'll for example, see them dressed in a Mafia
style outfit while playing through the New York stage.

So what about the controls? Thankfully for us, Bizarre
Creations have designed a unique control system which suits
the game perfectly. While initially strange to get used to,
it soon becomes a second nature after a few minutes of
playing. Basically, the analogue controller is used to look
around and move from left to right while walking. The 'X'
and 'B' buttons control forward and backward movement while
'A' and 'Y' are used to strafe left and right. The two L&R
triggers are there for jump and shoot, while the remaining
d-pad lets you switch between the different number of weapons
featured in the game. Once again, this will definitely seem
a little too much at first, but it really is an ingenious
system.

One definite appeal about Furballs is its guns. Trying out
an arsenal of ten, we were able to use a pistol, a shotgun,
a plasma gun, a rocket launcher and even a nifty little toy
that's not too different from the BFG in Doom! Bizarre are
currently promising up to as many as 30 in the complete
version.

Furballs will also play host to a multiplayer death match
option. Amusidly known as "Fluff Match", two players or
possibly more will be able to duel it out against one another
in this funfilled part of the game. Trying it out for
ourselves, Neil and I found great enjoyment slaughtering one
another via the splitscreen. For those of you curious about
Internet capabilities, we can tell you that Furballs will
definitely feature them.

Visually, this game is a treat to watch. Filled with all
things bright and beautiful, the game's engine is colourful
and bright, while articulately detailed at the same time.
Running at a steady 30 frames per second, it really is
a joy to withold Furballs' graphics capabilities. To be
honest, the screenshots here do little in providing this
title with justice, as you really have to see this one in
motion.

Overall, Furballs reeks of class - something which is
unfortunately missing from most games of today's age. Due
out in Spring 2000, this is one forthcoming release that
you'll definitely have to keep your eye on - it's going to
be amazing.
