NFL GAMEDAY BRINGS NEXT GENERATION REALISM TO THE ELECTRONIC GRID-IRON
Realistic Football Game First Available For PlayStation™ Game Console
FOSTER CITY, Calif., December 4, 1995 -- Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) announced today that its highly anticipated NFL GameDay ™, for Sony's PlayStation™ game console, is now available in retail outlets across North America. NFL GameDay brings the NFL experience to life allowing armchair quarterbacks to get "into" the game like never before. The authenticity and realism of the game is created through a combination of incredible 3-D animation, licenses with the National Football League and the NFL Players, team logos, uniforms and rendered stadiums, actual player statistics from Stats Inc., an up-to-date playbook that mirrors today's offensive and defensive strategies, and options such as player trades and weather conditions. "NFL GameDay has been heralded in the enthusiast press and won several awards including 'Best Sports Game' from GamePro Magazine , because of our incredible attention to detail and gameplay," said Peter Dille, marketing product director, SCEA. "With the power of the PlayStation and the superior artificial intelligence, combined with the graphics and the realism of the gameplay, NFL GameDay delivers a football game unlike anything before. NFL GameDay defines what is to be expected from a football game in the 32-bit marketplace." Gameplay realism is key to the success of NFL GameDay . Sony's internal production team consulted with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Steve Bono on the game's playbook to ensure that NFL GameDay faithfully recreates today's offensive and defensive strategies -- a fact that will not be lost on sports enthusiasts. The comprehensive variety of plays are recreated on screen with realistic assignments. In addition, an in-house motion-capture facility was used to recreate realistic football techniques including players' dives, spins, hurdles, jukes and stiff arms. On defense, players can put a swim move or a forearm shiver on their opponent, dive to tackle, or jump to block or intercept a pass. Additionally, the players are scaled to their actual height and weight so that Dave Meggett appears smaller than Junior Seau. With licenses from the National Football League as well as the NFL Players, NFL GameDay features more than 1,600 real NFL players as well as all 30 teams and their respective stadiums. Also featured is complete stat tracking of the players through an entire season including the Super Bowl. Gameplayers can select one of four weather conditions (sun, wind, rain or snow) on game day, and the weather will not only effect playing conditions (the playing field gets muddy during the game) but also affects the players' abilities throughout the game -- running backs who juke and spin will not have their typical yardage gains. Four different views, three difficulty settings, injuries on or off, and instant replays with a free-floating camera, are some of the other options players can choose from. Players will also be able to create their own "dream teams" using the player trade option. And if they have also purchased the Memory Card for the PlayStation game console, they can save their dream team and multiple seasons for later play or against a friend.
