The Legendary Street Fighter Alpha 3 Includes Internet Compatibility for Sega Dreamcast[edit]

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - March 10, 2000- Capcom, the publishers who defined the fighting game genre, today announced details regarding Internet functionality in the April release of Street Fighter Alpha 3 for the Sega Dreamcast game console. An arcade-perfect translation of the blockbuster arcade game, Street Fighter Alpha 3 reunites a well-known cast of 33 characters from the world famous Street Fighter Universe, including all special hidden characters from previous versions. The Internet function allows games to use their Sega Dreamcast to download and unlock master characters. The master character's skills challenge even the most talented player with amazing combos and lightning speed.

A number of features are exclusive to the Sega Dreamcast including an enhanced World Tour mode where many new "Ism Plus" abilities are featured. How the character develops depends on which "Ism" has been chosen. These new features make it possible to train your character for nearly unlimited variation. Another Sega Dreamcast exclusive is the Dramatic Battle mode where now up to three players can fight a 2-on-1match with any combination of characters, including player against player, and player against computer.

The Internet capability in Street Fighter Alpha 3expands game play and offers gamers an entirely new Street Fighter experience. Once the player has defeated three difficult student-level characters, they advance to challenge the powerful master character. Players only need to defeat the student characters once in order to fight the various master characters that will be offered. Capcom currently plans to introduce two master characters per week, each based on a familiar character with new skills and devastating attacks. Utilizing a well-designed menusystem, players will be able to access Capcom's download and home page easily and seamlessly.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 gives players a host of new options and brings back the "Isms" fighting styles made popular in prior Street Fighter games. From theStreet Fighter Alpha series, A-ism lets the player select the general combo system and choose different super combos. From Super Street Fighter II Turbo, players who select an X-ism can not block in the air but can command one very powerful super combo move. V-ism is an enhanced version of the custom combo system found in Street Fighter Alpha 2, allowing the player to inflict multiple hit damage on opponents. A turbo selection is available prior to a match allowing for lightening speed action. On topofall of this, Street Fighter Alpha 3 boasts faster gameplay, more precise control and rapid move reversals, with multiple layers of scrolling and awesome lighting effects. It also features new backgrounds not seen in the arcade version.

Street FighterAlpha 3 features various modes of play. The Arcade Mode is a direct translation of the arcade version with added special effects during hit sequences. This mode offers truly flawless arcade gameplay. Versus Mode allows players to select all playablecharacters. New to the Alpha series is the World Tour Mode, a special game mode that allows players to build their character's attack ability as they gain experience in defeating opponents throughout the world. As the player completes various stages, the character's ability will increase allowing the player to utilize the 'Ism Plus' feature. For instance, a character that uses A-ism can increase their skill and execute custom combos. In the Survival Mode players fight enemies one after another with limited vitality. Team Battle Mode is a 2-player game where each player chooses up to three characters. Final Battle Mode allows players to fight the final boss character. In the Training Mode, players can practice their moves and combos.

Street FighterAlpha 3 brings together Street Fighter favorites: Ryu, Ken, E. Honda, Sagat, Vega, Cammy, Chun Li, Charlie, Rose, Adon, Dan, Akuma, Bison, and Gen. The game also sees the return of Sakura, Ryu's number one teenage fan and Rolento, Birdie, Sodom, Guy and Cody from the Final Fight series.
